Been coming here for about 4 years. I must've passed by this place 1,000 times over the past 20 years and never paid it any mind. Happened to catch My attention one day after a 4 hour work out at the old 24 hr fitness that was down the block. Came in had a great meal can't remember the guys name, but a taller Latino dude in his late 30's. Did a great job very attentive and great sales man. I was thinking of spending 30-50 bucks and He talked Me in to spending about $150 just Me by My lonesome granted I was starving after a grueling work out, so I ate like a king. Had alot of wine as well. Food was up to par, place was nice and tidy staff is very personable. I have nothing bad to say about the restaurant. Except for one thing, I've ordered out about 10 times the last year or so and for some reason they almost always forget to give Me plastic ware. It's super annoying when I'm in My car wanting to eat on My way to where ever it is that I'm going. Even worse is that I forget to ask because I know they always forget this simple detail. It's all good I still love this place, just get that minor detail right and I'll come back and give this...

If you're searching for authentic Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine, Cafe Izmir is a hidden gem that absolutely delivers. I’ve dined at many Turkish/Mediterranean spots over the years, but this place is in a league of its own. The quality of the food is exceptional — everything is made fresh, and you can taste the love and tradition in every bite.

The salads are crisp and vibrant, the meats are tender and seasoned to perfection, and the sauces bring the whole meal together with bold, balanced flavor. Even the simplest items like hummus and rice have a depth you don’t find often. Every dish felt like it was made just for us — not rushed, not generic, but carefully crafted and full of heart.

And to top it all off, we had the pleasure of being served by Marcello, who was hands-down one of the kindest and most attentive waiters I’ve ever met. He was welcoming, professional, and truly cared that we had a great experience. He even made thoughtful recommendations that ended up being our favorite dishes of the night.

If you're looking for a place where authenticity meets excellence, this is it. Cafe Izmir is...

BEWARE GROUPON USERS! Food is good.. It's the change in attitude after showing the groupon that showed what this establishment seeks.. Money.

I have come here twice; first time without a groupon and the latest visit was with a groupon.

I and my wife had a generous meal of falafel, lamb wrap, saffron rice, and the pomegranate shrimp. It was good although the shrimp is really tangy so those with low citrus tolerance should avoid it. They also gave us the pita and Hummus. End of the meal I mentioned I had a groupon, and so they took my phone along with my card and spent 15mins over the POS system. When they came back, there was a "Groupon Automatic Gratuity" (nowhere in groupon is it mentioned) of more than 20% and they charged us for the pita and Hummus which is complimentary (we have had this during our first visit) . When asked about the gratuity, they said it's system generated which was ridiculous! The guy did revert the charge on the gratuity saying "he will pay for it" Bottomline.. They tried to extract the groupon discount from us through rediculous means which is why we won't...

Welcome Back Home!!! That’s how we feel at this place. We used to come here 20 years ago and always felt so warmly welcomed. We moved away 14 years ago and just moved back. We were pleasantly surprised to find all of the same folks here - Bo, Nick, Ali, Courtney, Mama and some new ones too! Faraz our waiter was incredibly attentive…he’s a newcomer having worked here for only 7 years. The lack of turnover in staff speaks volumes about this place. The food is still so delicious - we highly recommend what we had. We started with the appetizer sampler: babaganous, humus and ziziki yogurt. Then we had a chicken kabob dinner and a beef kabob dinner. There was plenty to eat with leftovers for tomorrow. The vibe is still interesting and hip, but most of all, genuinely warm and welcoming. Thank you Cafe Izmir for an incredible evening as always!! Love you all!

Food was extremely satisfying. The entire staff was very hospitable and helpful. Dim lighting, candle lit-tables, live acoustic music, and fancy decor create the perfect ambiance. We had the privilege of enjoying the dinner for two. The spread was incredible and the meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Portion sizes were generous and the food came moderately quick. Paired with a beautiful sangria, this meal was definitely one of the highlights of our night. A note of warning, parking for Cafe Izmir is valet only. They don't advertise its cost but be sure to carry at least 5 dollars in cash for parking. Also, side note: the bathrooms had mouthwash in them so that's pretty cool. Didn't really match the fancy vibe of the rest of the restaurant though. 4.6/5 presentation 5/5 vibes 5/5 food 4.3/5 drink 3/5 bathroom

I have been fortunate to have spent many a Sunday at a home where you are welcomed just like family. Waking up in the early afternoon to the scents of great food after a long night and morning in the frenzy that was the Deep Elum club scene we worked at in the early 90's. I did not know it at the time, the family had a larger vision. I moved to a suburban life . The connection I have with this family is something I am reminded of every time I dine here. And it's not often enough. It is special. Just like the attention to every recipe that is a part of this menu. Each one executed the same as it was 25 years ago, in that house on the M streets. Food can indeed transport us. The consistency in execution and flavor is only surpassed by the service. New items are added over time, but it's core never faulters.
