Visited the Sundown at Granada to see a live music performance on the small stage that sits on one end of the room inside the restaurant. Having never been to the place before - I had no idea what to expect. The restaurant/venue is dimly lit and had a really nice atmosphere. You felt like you were walking into a fine dining establishment (and you are.). We did not visit the patio outside since it was a cool December evening, but I can imagine that it would be a nice experience to dine al fresco based on the photos from their website.
Upon arrival, I used the complimentary valet to make parking easy rather than hunting for an open parking spot on a Friday night on Greenville Ave. I met my buddy who had arrived before me and grabbed us a pair seats at the bar, although there was a hostess to greet you when you walk in.
Our bartender, April, was attentive and engaging... She made us a smoked old fashioned that we quickly determined was one of the best we'd ever had... As were the few more follow-up drinks that we ordered after that. (We had to make sure it wasn't a fluke, right?) 😁
As for food, we started with the White Queso & Tortilla Chips (with the brisket added.) The combination was very tasty. For the main entree, we were both pointed to the Braised Short Rib by the aforementioned April. The meat was very tender and savory with au jus drizzled on it and served over garlic whipped potatoes and accompanied by roasted cauliflower. Delicious!
The concert itself was very enjoyable... The sightlines were good and we elected to remain seated at the bar for the duration of the evening. They didn't do any noticable special seating for the show and so we didn't feel compelled to move. I don't know if this is standard for performances, but I have no complaints.
I would HIGHLY recommend a visit to the Sundown at Granada on any occasion - even without an attraction to pull you in. Kudos to the whole staff - I...
Read moreLet me start by saying I’m TABC certified. I’ve been serving drinks on lower Greenville for seven years. During the pandemic I lived in Puerto Rico (a US Territory) for a while and got an ID there. This is the one I use to get into bars and such since it’s a valid US ID. I have not had a problem using it these last three year. Well I paid a $25 cover fee for an 80’s themed night yesterday to celebrate my friend’s 21st birthday. I am 26 years old. I go to the bar and the bartender asks for my ID (mind you I’m the oldest one in my friend group and everybody else was able to drink without being carded) and she refuses so serve me and says she cannot accept an out of country ID and that she cannot verify it’s a real ID. I explained to her why my ID is valid and why she was wrong and she called a lady working at the door and both determined they could not serve me. Mind you I am completely sober, not showing any signs of intoxication and I am providing a valid form of ID. I left the venue and wasted $25 and the money it took me to Uber there for my friends birthday. Shame since I work so close to sundown and serve the employees there almost every day and they’re always so cool. These two ladies that I interacted with should really inform themselves better! UPDATE: Came in next day and talked to the manager. She apologized and offered me a comped meals and drinks, which is why I’ve changed my review from one...
Read moremy husband and i came to eat brunch at around 11:40 am, the blonde waitress w a bun served us. we noticed a few servers piled up at the bar not really attentive to their guests. we ordered an appetizer of chips & queso, which was served to the incorrect table. the guests sitting at that table announced to their server that they did not order this and a couple from that table had already picked off chips not knowing. the server took the plate of chips/queso and gave it to us, without going to the back to get us some fresh chips, instead we got the same plate that was picked off from. besides that we asked our waitress for water twice, since ours was empty. took her a second to peel away from the bar but we eventually received it. towards the end of our meal we asked for the check, we weren’t too satisfied and tipped as such. Here’s where I talk about the reason WHY I WROTE THIS REVIEW! the waitress then proceeds talk poorly about having us as customers, loud enough for ME to hear & the table behind us who gave the waitress that stunned look. The waitress goes back to the bar with the other servers and looks at us and laughs with them. ive NEVER had this issue with Sundown, were always treated like guests, but this time around with this waitress (who didn’t even greet us or introduce herself) treated us as customers. Customers are transactions, Guests are to feel welcome and...
