El Catrin — Restaurant in Dallas

I have never received services like I did at this restaurant. I was really excited to try this place and drove 30 min from home.

The server took our drink order and brought it to us. I told her that we were ready but she took the menus and walked off. Didn’t even bring us chips or anything!

We had already been waiting about 20 minutes when a large family came in and sat down. She immediately ran to them, took their drink order, and took them all their drinks. And then proceeded to take their food order right in front of us! She even took them chips and salsa when we hadn’t gotten anything.

I was extremely shocked and upset. I have never received that treatment before at a restaurant. And on top of that I was starving.

We paid our drinks and left right after we saw that and as I glanced over to her, she had a smirk on her face. I WILL NEVER BE GOING THERE AGAIN. I am the type to recommend to everyone the restaurants I try. But I will 100% not be recommending...

I had an amazing experience at El Catrin in Oak Cliff!! This place is so friggin fun to visit! I couldn't believe it had been there 10 years. Your eyes are constantly dancing around looking at the wonderful and inviting decor. Great service! The chips were great and served with salsa Verde, black bean dip and in house amazing salsa which was perfectly spicy enough for me, but the guy informed me they had spicier(a word if you're from Texas) options available. Like every visit I have to a Mexican restaurant , I had the Mole Poblano de Pollo and my hubs had the Burrito al Carbon and you got to pick your meat for that dish. This place has a wonderful atmosphere. Of course, I had a margaritas and it was pretty tasty as well, but I think they only serve frozen and I'm personally a rocks gal. I love the rim they used. In the future, please turn on the Air conditioner so your customers can eat comfortably. Several customers walked out becauseit was warm and muggy inside... we almost did the same but we decided to stay and give it a chance.

They only had one Waitress for the entire place so I can't blame her entirely for the service provided. She favored one particular table while we were there so this did upset me a bit since we waited longer than we should have.

I wanted to try several menu items to provide a good review, however we didn't even get our appetizer to begin with. The menudo tasted strange which is what I went for. I settled with the gorditas which were ok. I did ask for rice and beans on the side, which I also did not get. The atmosphere and decor is definitely there. Their Aguas frescas were on point! This was the only thing I truly enjoyed.
