We are currently at Ellen's. Flew in for a quick weekend getaway for husband's bday. He's a huge Cowboy's fan. Ellen's wss HIGHLY recommended to us by the hotel and Lyft driver. We decided to eat at the bar due to a 45 min wait to he seated. The service was absolutely TERRIBLE. The sever took forever to take our appetizwr order & when she did it was as though she was bothered. A couple minutes later a different server came over to take our drink order. After 10 minutes waiting for a drink, we asked about the order & the original server said she would be making the drinks. MORE waiting. Finally we flagged them down to tell them we were ready to order. No apology. No thank you for waiting. We had to send one meal back (See below) and when we got the check they forgot to remove the entree. When we brought it to their attention they said someone else had to make the adjustment. 15 man later & still no corrected check. Once again, we had to flag them down only for them to realize the revised check was ready, but they forgot to bring it. We will NEVER patronize this restaurant again and we will tell everyone else our experience INCLUDING the various travel groups we participate in.

Let me say the Joey Balls were AMAZING. The buttermilk fried chicken was absolutely HORRIBLE. it was dry, the grease seemed old, but more importantly there was barely any seasoning on the chicken. Hubby had grits Benedict and he said it was pretty good. Drinks were...

Usually I don’t leave reviews though I think this feedback will help improve the experience for other customers.

I have worked in the service industry for 10 years, I get that it’s important to “flip tables”, though restaurants in the USA are taking it too far. In other countries going to eat food isn’t a timed experience, you sit down and enjoy the company of your friends and the flavor of the food on your terms.

I arrived at Ellen’s at 12:40. I ordered my food at 12:46. A check was dropped off at about 12:53 only 7 minutes after I took my first sip of coffee.

I was eating alone, only drank half my coffee, and barely started eating.

It’s unacceptable that a check gets dropped off after 7 minutes of receiving your food. I had a similar experience 4 years ago when I came here, and had decided never to come back. I went back today for the first time since then, and had the same experience.

Shrimp and grits was too much grits, with little flavor. You pretty much pay $23 for 50c of grits, 50c of spinach, 50c of tomatoes and $3 of shrimp with a little garlic and Cajun seasoning. Grits was bland and shrimp were over-spiced. Tiny slivers of sausage that were also without flavor.

Don’t come here for shrimp and grits. Chicken fried steak though is good.

I left a 20% tip becaise the work was done, but the management needs to tell their waitstaff to time when they drop off the check and not to discriminate against...

So, if your Dallas Art District, you should try out Ellen's. Our wait time was about 45 minutes, but it was well worth it. I had the Chicken Fried Steak, with Mashed Potatoes and Macaroni. CFS, was delicious once you pushed the gravy to the side. Great taste and went down the pipe just the same. The mashed potatoes with brown gravy were too salty for my taste, but I still ate them. Macaroni had a different taste the most, but its unique in taste made it good. My wife ate Huevos Benedict, took a video of her tasting, and food was just a "Good" but she still finished them. She says it had no flavor, and it was luke warm. The sauce had to flavor, but the tamale with pork was the tasty part that over powered the Eggs Benedict. The iced tea, both unsweetened and sweet, was fresh and delicious. We also ordered the Caramel Machiato coffee that was a "Bigttime Wow"!!!! The Chilli Soup as a starter was Amazing!!! So much flavor and made to perfection!!! Her Chicken Dumpling soup was an ok. The best and overall part of our Ellen's experience, was the service. The hostess as per my wife, were #BetterThanATen!!! Our waiter Jesus, was by far, #TheBestWaiter/Server we have ever had!!! Attentive, explained the menu, asked us on a consistent basis if needed anything. The dude is a #Badass. So if my recommendation to come and eat at #Ellen's pursuades you to come and visit, make sure you...
