It was the best of times, it was the worst of times . . . it’s definitely a tale of two restaurants:
THE GOOD:
THE BAD:
THE EXPERIENCE:
My wife and I had reservations for 7PM. We arrived and our table wasn’t ready, so we went to the bar and ordered some drinks. We were seated in about 15 minutes or so.
Once seated, our server was very attentive. She took our order and told my wife that the steak tartare is being prepared. They are even trying to finalize it and add it to their menu. If you get a chance to try it, I strongly recommend you order it. We also ordered the 5-course tasting menu.
The charcuterie board came out first. We were surprised that it was one of the courses. When I order (and pay) for a 5 course tasting menu, I expect 5 courses prepared in the kitchen. I felt cheated that they put some meats on a tray and delivered it to us and called it course #1. I would have expected something with a bit more finesse and preparation (like everything else that was delivered). The charcuterie board was very underwhelming. Honestly, I can’t even remember a single item that was on it.
The rest of the tasting menu was really good. The only part I didn’t completely enjoy was the NY Strip. But, everything else was amazing.
Here’s the tale of two restaurants. At 7PM when we arrived, the restaurant appeared to be around 70% capacity. There was room to move around and our waitress was quite attentive. Around 8:15, the restaurant got very crowded and I would guess around 120% more people than they should have had in there. Our service went downhill very quickly. I ordered a 2nd glass of wine which never arrived. Water service was much slower. Food came out slower. From 7PM till 8PM, we thought this would be our favorite restaurant of all time. After that time, it was hot, crowded, and uncomfortable. My wife even mentioned at one point that her feet were sweating. We couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Once we stepped outside, we felt much better and it was cooler than inside. Mind you, it was 85+ degrees outside at this time, but with a slight breeze, it felt much better than inside. I think when they cram that many people into the restaurant and everyone is at 98.6 degrees, there’s no way for the air conditioning to keep up.
I completely understand wanting as many customers as possible. But, our experience was so bad, that we probably won’t go back. That is very unfortunate, because I ate some of the absolute best food of my life last night, but when the service and atmosphere noticeably gets that terrible, I just wanted to leave as soon...
Read moreMy wife and I recently dined at Georgie to celebrate a special occasion, and we were excited to experience it, especially with its potential for a Michelin Star at the time of dining (though at the time of writing, it has not received a star but was marked as 'Recommended' by the Michelin Guide).
I started with both the traditional oysters and the butter-poached oysters. The butter-poached oysters were outstanding. While I enjoyed these, my wife savored the French Onion Consommé, which had a wonderful depth of flavor, and the Blackberry Smash mocktail, which was nice and refreshing.
For the main course, I chose the dry-aged duck breast, and my wife ordered the ricotta gnudi. Both dishes were well-seasoned, offered decent portions, and were extremely enjoyable. The duck was tender, smoky, and cooked perfectly. The gnudi was pillowy, savory, and very well complimented by the black truffle and confit ragu. We also shared the fried green tomato, which, while good, was our least favorite dish of the evening. It felt like it needed an extra element—perhaps a bit more salt.
The highlight of the evening, surprisingly, was the chocolate chip cookies for dessert. Without a doubt, these were the best cookies I’ve ever had. I would return just for them. Our server mentioned we were in for a treat, and although I was skeptical at first (thinking, “it’s just cookies” and only ordering them to satisfy my pregnant wife's craving), we were both blown away. Do yourself a favor and end your meal with these cookies—they are absolutely phenomenal!
While the meal and service were outstanding, I couldn’t quite give Georgie 5 stars due to the atmosphere. This wasn’t an issue with the décor, lighting, or flow—it was entirely due to the music. The volume was too loud, making it difficult to converse without raising our voices. At times, it felt like we were shouting just to place our order. It was as if the restaurant couldn’t decide whether it wanted to be a fine dining establishment or a high-end bar/nightclub. To add to this, the music was occasionally explicit, which felt inappropriate for a restaurant of this caliber. It was surprising and severely off-putting to deal with such an issue in an otherwise elegant setting.
Would this prevent me from returning? Ultimately, no. The food was magnificent and I would love to try more of the menu. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if the music was a factor that kept them from securing a...
Read moreWent here for a birthday dinner. As appetizer we had the Millefeuille, charred kale Caesar, beef tartare and clams. The Millefeuille was plated nicely, had great taste and the different textures were pleasing to the palate. The kale Caesar was prepared well, but was nothing stunning. I am not normally a clams person, but these were excellent..they were not chewy and the watercress sauce was a great addition. The bread at the bottom that soaked up the juices was great. The beef tartare was an interest balance flavors..one I was unsure of. The pungent blue cheese and heat from the horseradish played on the chilled meat and sweetness of the grapes. This is a rich dish so would definitely need to share. The bread most hot and crunchy on the outside while perfectly cooked on the inside. The slightly saltines of the bread played well with the creamy butter. We had the 10oz. NY strip and the halibut both were cooked perfectly. My wife loved the halibut as did the people at the table next to us. My steak was cooked perfectly mid rare and was sliced in the kitchen. The presentation of steak knives to choose from was a great idea. The steak was extremely tender and had a great beef flavor. I have eaten at 2 top steakhouses this month and this was easily the best of the 3 steaks. It was accompanied by a bernaise sauce which I did not use on my steak. As accompaniments we had the Brussels sprouts and roasties (twice fried potoates). Brussels sprouts were cooked well and tasty, my wife ate most of them. The roasties were crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. For desert we had the rotisserie pineapple. This was a light dessert after the rich and hefty meal we just had.
I was concerned about the service after reading some of the reviews, but our service was top notch. Service was attentive but not intrusive and our server, Brer, was interactive with us and the other customers in our area. Additionally, he was very knowledgeable about the menu. They were also kind enough to give us a glass of champagne for the birthday celebration.
I will definitely return to try out...
