6/20/25: I gave my husband four restaurant choices and he chose this place for our anniversary dinner.
Service was friendly.
Items I like and recommend: Fried tofu Baked mussels Fried yellowtail collar bones Grilled Shishito peppers Octopus carpaccio Note: The steamed sushi rice here is cooked to perfection (not dry or mushy), and the rice does not have that strong sweet Mirin flavor. My kids would love the steamed sushi rice here.
What I dislike: Freshness of fish: I have only been learning to eat sushi for a year and am very sensitive to anything fishy. Some of these raw fish have a fishy smell like the red snapper. My husband couldn't detect any fishy smell but he agrees it doesn't taste fresh compared to all the other sushi places we have been to.
Salmon Skin Salad - the name is just a joke. It turned out a little bowl of minced overcooked salmon bits cooked to dryness with a few spring mix and a small piece of salmon skin. Kudos to those who enjoy overcooked dry salmon but for me, it's fancy compost. This is more like a salmon jerky salad instea.
Naruto Roll - They only use two fish instead of three kinds of fish for the roll.
Honey Moon Roll - husband and I both felt it tasted too sweet. I don't like eating any roll that makes me feel and think I am eating dessert in disguise.
There is actually a limit on the House Special (carpaccio) of one order per person total.
Overall, our anniversary dinner here was just okay. My husband and I still prefer Tekuma AYCE in Dallas or Osaka Sushi and Grill in Addison better. If I do come back here, I would just order my favorites from the menu instead...
Read moreHarutaka Sushi: A Five-Star Experience! If you're searching for an exceptional (AYCE) sushi experience, Harutaka Sushi is an absolute must-try. I recently dined here and was thoroughly impressed, awarding it a full five stars without hesitation. The most striking aspect of Harutaka Sushi is undoubtedly the impeccable freshness and high quality of their fish. Every piece I tried was a testament to their commitment to sourcing the best ingredients. The variety on offer was also fantastic, with a wide selection of expertly prepared nigiri and rolls that cater to all preferences. You can truly taste the difference that top-tier ingredients make here. Beyond the remarkable food, the atmosphere and service truly enhance the dining experience. The owner is incredibly friendly, often greeting diners with a warm welcome that makes you feel right at home. The rest of the staff is equally nice and attentive, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable meal from start to finish. Their genuine hospitality complements the exquisite cuisine perfectly. Overall, Harutaka Sushi delivers on all fronts: incredible food, a welcoming ambiance, and outstanding service. It's clear that a lot of care goes into every aspect of this restaurant, making it a standout choice for any sushi lover. I highly...
Read moreWe decided to give Harutaka Sushi AYCE a try since it recently opened, but unfortunately, it was a major letdown.
While advertised as all you can eat, many of the so-called “premium” items, like toro, Uni etc. are limited to just one piece per person. Some fish carpaccios are also limited to one order per person, even though you can order the same fish as regular sushi. What’s the point of that restriction? It feels arbitrary and misleading.
The AYCE menu is also overly complicated and difficult to navigate. The freshness of the sushi was decent, but far from impressive. Non-sushi dishes were bland and forgettable. I’ve never had fried calamari without a single trace of seasoning until now.
We tried ordering uni, a premium item, only to be told it was unavailable due to no stock. Yet we watched the table next to us, clearly not on AYCE, being served uni. That’s not just frustrating, it’s unacceptable.
The final straw was the toro. It arrived torched instead of fresh and tasted like boiled pork. Why ruin a premium item like that? Either the chef is inexperienced, or they’re covering up poor-quality fish.
At $34.95 per adult, this experience simply isn’t worth the value. Best of luck to the business, but I won’t be returning. Not...
