A single scoop for $4?? That’s also hollow in the center I’m sorry but that’s absurd. It was practically a spoon full. Asked for a refund right then and there as soon as I held it for myself. The couple that was in there with me also commented on the portion of their double scoop. They too were not pleased. The staff was nice enough to give me a refund. Very nice staff actually, props to them for being respectful and not having any outbursts like most people in today’s society. They told me that’s what their boss tells them to scoop. Not their fault but the management needs to stop being cheap with the smallest portions I’ve ever seen. The sample I had was very delicious but the lackluster portion of ice cream was just sad. I’m going to that Tongue in Cheek place people have suggested instead. First and last visit today sorry chief.
To the Staff: keep doing what you’re doing, you’re not doing anything wrong.
To management: I’ve been reading all the negative reviews and each time you shrug it off and say it’s because you are employing those with disabilities… good on you for doing so. Seems like you have a good group of people working the front lines but that doesn’t solve the majority of your negative reviews related to portion sizes. That is a MANAGEMENT problem. I know many ice cream places that give INSANE portions. Like 1.5 PINTS all stacked up onto one cone for $5 that is practically tipping over when you get it handed to you so don’t pull that card either. That place is also a mom and pop shop. I interviewed them and they said they make money off the return business not necessarily the profit off a single scoop. Might be worth a try, give halfway decent portions and have the return business of $1.00 profit per person per visit; they visit 4 times, each time leaving happy and content, you’ve already made a profit AND they’ll keep coming back… probably tell their friends about a pretty awesome ice cream shop or make $3.75 profit off a single visit where the customer is left wanting more, also never having that customer return again. Good news travels slow, bad news spreads like wildfire. It’s...
Read moreAfter eating at Republic Texas Tavern we decided to swing by Howdy Homemade for dessert and it was extremely disappointing. I had fairly high expectations based upon the reviews, but even if I had not read any I would have been quite disappointed.
The shop has pre-scooped portions, using COVID as the justification, but it was an immediate turn-off. I don't follow how having pre-portioned ice cream provides a substantially lower risk of COVID transmission, especially since fomites are not a significant source of transmission. But it does seem like a convenient excuse to strictly control portion sizes, and to those ends they controlled them quite well. The size of a single scoop was meager and I couldn't bring myself to reward the shop with my business.... I'm a big proponent of voting with my wallet.
The folks I was with all ordered ice cream, and none were overly impressed with the taste. In contrast the Tongue in Cheek ice cream shop in Richardson has delicious homemade ice cream, scoops to order, and is generous with their portions. A single scoop at Tongue in Cheek would likely be three scoops at Howdy's, and is somehow less...
Read moreCute store, good ice cream, poor service. My wife and I stopped for ice cream at this shop we found on maps. It had great reviews and looked awesome, so it was a no brainer. When we arrived, we saw no one at the counter until we started talking about what flavors we wanted to try. A young man came out and took our orders but was unenthusiastic about serving us. We both got two scoops in the $6 bowls. The attached picture is of our bowls. My wife got their Brownie Points and coffee flavors, and I got the Cookie Nom'ster and Chocolate as All Get Out. My wife got two small scoops, and I received a bowl that was too full and melting over onto the counter while I was trying to pay. The young man didn't seem concerned or bothered about the mess, but I wanted to help by cleaning up the mess. The ice cream was great, but with poor service and inconsistent portioning I didn't feel inclined to leave a tip. If management does see this review, please just coach the individual behind the counter on service. The product is good, just the people delivering the...
