I visited Taj Mahal about 5 years ago for the Sunday buffet, on 2 seperate occasions. I was pleasantly surprised then, but never returned due to the high price and such little choices. I decided to give it another shot today since its only mins from where I live, this was a mistake and I'll never go again. Before even serving myself the first 3 plates I grabbed had dried up food on them and 1 had crumbs on it as if it was never washed to begin with. I tried all of the foods and none of them tasted right. The Chicken Tikka Masala was very dry, tasted overcooked, the sauce tasted bland and nothing like it was suppose to. The Tandori chicken was even dryer and tasted like it was charred on an old dirty grill. The Paneer tasted like frozen spinach was used. There was a chicken dish with red sauce and the chicken was really bland, hard and chewy. There was a sausage dish in curry like sauce, the sausages were horrible, they just tasted like fennel seeds. I thought at the very least the Lentil Dal would be good but I was very wrong. The soup was watery, had no flavor and had a sand like texture to it. The only thing that was okay here was the Mango custard, it was decent. I went there 1 hour before closing and while I was there they did bring out some fresher dishes as some looked like they had been sitting out all day. However the fresher food did not improve the flavor or dryness. A funny story is while I was there a man commented to a table about how this was the best indian restraunt in town and how he and his wife loved Taj Mahal and had been coming for years. He mentioned that this restraunt and another one were their go to Indian spots. The other place that he mentioned, I'd been before and it's mediocre at best. Some people either can't taste or try a few mediocre places without knowing they're mediocre and never venture out to try more to realize that there is way better. I'm not sure what happened here but the food served here is a disgrace to authentic indian cuisine. I've been to around 20 different indian restraunts in DFW and this is by far the worst indian food I have...
Read moreI haven't ate here in 7 months because the food was going downhill. Hopefully it's gotten better by the new reviews I see. I used to go there alot because the food used to taste so good. But as of this year or sometime late last year, I think they hired new people that don't know how to cook Indian food properly or right. The masala started tasting like campbell's tomato soup and would have no flavor at all. There were times I would order the Bhuna gosht, and it would be delicious, and the next time I ordered, it would have no taste at all and I would feel like I wasted 15.00 dollars. Their were other items on the menu I would order and some days it would be made right and the next it didn't taste right or have any kind of flavor at all. I would have to season the food myself to get the flavor just right until one day I asked them to remake my food, they did and it still tasted bad. I don't know what happened to this place but I remember the food used to be packed with alot of flavor, now the food has no taste. I now go to the Roti grill because they are consistent in flavor. I realized how bad the place had gotten when I drove by, because they only had 1 or 2 customers eating there on the weekend whereas when I passed by other Indian restaurants that same day they were packed with people. However the manager and waitresses are great, I really like them, they are always friendly, and welcoming. I really liked the place and wouldn't mind going back but they need to monitor and taste the food they are cooking before serving it to people. No one appreciates spending 15 to 19 dollars on food...
Read moreI used to dine at this restaurant a lot in their previous location, and was excited when I heard the news that they were reopening. My mother and I decided to stop by yesterday for dinner and we were immediately seated. The restaurant was pretty quiet, but there were a few customers, and it seems many people stop by to pick up to go orders. The family that owns this restaurant are very hospitable and provide excellent service every time, the owner immediately recognized my mother and I and come by to say hello and take our orders. I ordered the tandoori chicken and naan, and my mother placed her orders. The food came pretty fast and was delicious. I ordered mild and the spice was at a perfect level, having both flavor and some warmth, but nothing insanely hot. The chicken was perfectly moist and was as fresh as it can be. The naan bread was also delicious and freshly made. The owners know I like their gulab jamun, and without even asking she brought out some for me, and gave me some to go free of charge, it was a very kind gesture and is more than appreciated. Additionally, I happen to be allergic to nuts, and I've never had problems here, so if you have nut allergies you won't need to worry here. Overall the experience was great, and for the amount of food you get, the prices are very reasonable. This is a great place and I fully recommend dining here. I'll be back...
