My family and I ate here with our friends on Wednesday. Ive eaten at the other Jinya locations downtown and in San Antonio and was in love.
When we tried this location we were forgotten about by our waitress and the staff member she was training, and predominantly served by the hostess. We arrived when their was only a few tables outside and the inside was essentially empty so we assumed there would be quick service.
Our waitress gave us a menu to look over the menu and then forgotten about us. So we sat in the restaurant for about 30 minutes waiting to order. We had to actually signal her over to come take our order.
After ordering she came back over time randomly to ask us questions about our order that we had already told her along with the bottle of Sake my husband ordered that she had forgotten to put in.
We sat at the restaurant for almost 45 to an hour waiting for our 4 bowls of ramen and a rice bowl. As 4 other tables had been sat arou d us and had recieved their bowls of ramen, and waiting patiently, we called over the hostess to ask when our food would be ready and were then informed of a Kitchen emergency as the reason for the delay.
Our food came out within 5 to 10 minutes after that. However 3 out of the 4 ramens were wrong and we did not recieve the rice. When they were corrected, we had received a side of uncooked mushrooms for one of our ramens which was unusual for me.
It was only after the hostess had gotten us taken care of with our food and the refills we asked for did our waitress come ask if everything okay.
We then had to call her back later for togo boxes and the check.
The hostess came back then offered us a desert but we had to go get our children to sleep and declined and she did apply a $10 discount.
That night the person in our party that recieved the bowl with raw mushroom was vomiting and had diarrhea, immediately rejecting it and her son the same within a few hours. By Friday the other 3 of us adults and the other child also had the...
Read moreMy family and friends ate here Wednesday evening ( 5/15/2024), we came when it was just about to be busy, we were the first ones to be sat in the back of the resturant. So we thought, lucky us! As we ordered and waited, and waited... and waited... we noticed as other tables were being filled around us, they had recieved their meals already. We had gotten our drinks and our appetizers, but after that our waitress and the trainee never came back to check on us. After a long while of waiting and occasionally asking our waitress for something as she tried to zip past us, like wondering where the sake we ordered that we later found out was never put in until we reminded her. We finally got fed up and asked the hostess about our meal, which she told us "there was a kitchen emergency" and our food will be out shortly. The emergency was that it was forgotten, or rather probably not put in as well. The hostess finally brought our ramen to the table, however, all 4 orders were drastically wrong. I don't blame the hostess at ALL. She was trying SO HARD to fix the situation and honestly she made all the difference. She offered dessert at the end to try and make up for the entire blunder of our dinner, which we had to decline because we needed to get the kids to bed. It wasn't until our food hit the table and our food was fixed when our waitress finally asked if we were doing okay. Later when we got home, I started throwing up and had diarrhea all night. In-between my fits my 1 year old woke up and started throwing up as well. All Thursday we were sick as dogs trying to fight for our lives. We have no idea what was wrong with our food but it was not good. My husband is now succumbing to the food poisoning so I know it's not an anomaly.
We really enjoyed the Jinya in San Antonio and couldn't believe this resturant was even associated with that one. The Hostess at this location was FANTASTIC, she gets so much praise because it was not her job to take care of us as...

I love me a good bowl of Ramen, but after dining at Jinya, that belief was solidified. My evening with Oldest Daughter and Son-In-Law was at the Preston Hollow location in Dallas, a very Tony neighborhood that had me drooling at the walkability to everything I might ever need. OK, $4000 rents maybe not so much, but I digress.
We started with drinks…a margarita for Oldest Daughter, and a Medicinal Grade Hazy IPA (from Community Brewing) for SIL and me. This was followed with a couple of apps, the vegan Brussels Sprouts Tempura for me the resident vegan, and Nikuman (steamed meat bun) for my progeny. They were decadent each in their own way.
Our mains were the Spicy Creamy Vegan Ramen for me, Spicy Chicken Ramen with seasoned egg, garlic, and wok chow for Oldest Daughter, and Chicken Ramen with seasoned egg for SIL. There was an instant hush as we dove into our meals, because conversation could wait. It was that amazing.
The entire experience was enhanced by a server who knew his menu through and through, making informed pointers to us along the way. We all know how frustrating it can be to ask a server a question, and then they haven’t a clue. This guy nailed everything.
I know. A Ramen Bar sounds like college dinner for the champagne set, but this is far better than anything you ever prepared in a microwave in your room or apartment. It’s an aspiration, not just survival. And…be forewarned…it comes with a price. Our dinner, drinks, tax, and tip came to $145 for the three of us, so this is not your undergrad days.
But it is so worth it, and Jinya aims to grow from 52 locations to more than 200 in the coming ten years. That’s good news, because I will happily give them my money. Remember…”No Ramen, No Life.” These guys are...
