Doesn't even deserve one star.
Let me start by saying that my family (and by family I mean ALL family not just immediate so that's at least 50 members easily) have been coming here for more than a decade. Since a child I remember coming here. So it truly saddens me that this place has completely changed in such a negative way.
The nice old man who works the corn stand is still there, we have never had a problem with him. The problem only ensued when one of his employees decided to disrespect us as customers and spoke to my mother in such a harsh tone over a little salsa.
My family and I were having a small get together and wanted some food from this place so I went with my mom to put in 4 orders and 7 corn orders. I ordered the corns with the man and my mother ordered the tacos with the lady inside the stand. As it turns out the lady was trying to charge my mom for salsa even though she was placing four large orders. My mom told her she's never had to pay extra for this and that we drive far because we like the service and food. The lady continued to get angry and completely refused to serve her. My mom then came around and told the corn guy which owns this place. He told the lady to make the order and she still refused. Not only did she refuse, but she yelled at my mom that, and I quote, "IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, THEN YOU CAN GO SOMEWHERE ELSE".
Mind you that the order my mom was placing was at least $60 worth and the lady wanted to put one side of salsa for the entire order. Not even fast food restaurants do you like that, and they're stingy with their sauces.
The service was completely horrible and I can assure that no one else in my family will return here. Likewise, I used to recommend this place to all my friends and I will no longer be doing that either. We will not be returning, because not only was the service terrible, but they disrespected my mom and she was completely heartbroken that they would treat her in such a manner even though it's the only elote place she has gone for the past decade.
I also want to add that this place will try and remove any negative comments but do nothing to fix any problems. Also, found a new place with much better tasting corn and much better service so I thank you guys for showing us...
Read moreFew taquerías in Dallas have the cult status of El Si Hay. The tiny white-and-green stand on Beckley Avenue has long been a Bishop Arts rite of passage, drawing weekend crowds for its cash-only tacos and ice-cold Jarritos. From the outside, it looks exactly like you want a street-side taco shack to look: hand-painted menu on the wall, a metal counter for stand-and-eat sessions, and the scent of grilled meat drifting onto the sidewalk.
On a recent visit I sampled two of the staples — the fajita (beef skirt) and bistec (beef steak) tacos. At $2.75 apiece, they’re still a value in today’s taco economy. The tortillas were warm and doubled up in classic street-taco style, but they lacked the pillowy freshness or light char that separates a good taco from a great one. The meats, while serviceable, didn’t quite sing: the fajita offered a faint smokiness but no real punch, and the bistec had a one-note chew rather than the beefy depth I was hoping for. Standard cilantro and onion toppings kept things clean, but a vibrant salsa might have helped lift the flavors (extra hot sauce runs 75¢).
There’s no denying El Si Hay’s appeal. The stand is charming, the menu straightforward, and for many locals it’s a nostalgic taste of Oak Cliff. But with Dallas’ taco scene evolving, from trompo specialists to boutique nixtamal tortillas, expectations have risen. Compared with newer competitors, El Si Hay feels more like a dependable neighborhood stop than a destination worthy of a special trip.
Bottom line: If you’re nearby and craving a quick, inexpensive taco with old-school vibes, El Si Hay still delivers. But if you’re coming from “miles and miles” away expecting a revelatory experience, you may leave thinking, as I did, that the legend slightly outshines the reality.
Rating: 4 stars (out of 5) solid and honest, but not quite the transcendent taco stand its...
Read moreWent on a Saturday afternoon, around 5ish. I waited about 15 minutes to order and about 20 to 25 to get my order. While I waited to get my order I jumped in the line for the elote. Waited even longer for that one.in all it wasn’t until about 7:30 that I was able to get my elotes and start eating my tacos and corn.
The tacos were good not the greatest but they are up there for some of the best tacos I’ve had. Definitely can say they are in my top 5. They are seasoned well and their green hot sauce is pretty spicy! The elotes were different but good. Some say they aren’t traditional but they are they just have a small twist to them. They are made fresh and right in front of you. They hot sauce is spicy but tolerable and enjoyable. Their elote is for sure also in my top 5 for elotes in Dallas.
I really enjoyed this place. The food was amazing and the people that waited in line were also great. The older gentleman making the elote has been there making elote for over 30 years. He has mastered the art of the elote, and it’s a sight to behold. To me it was a mixing pot of all races. It truly shows the diversity of Dallas in one place and how some tacos can bring...
