Really sad to see such a wonderful staple under perform during this time.
Understandably the menu has significantly changed, but what is not understandable is the removal of staples that were the most beloved plates. It seems they just took some off things from the cafe (upstairs) menu and some things from the Mermaid Bar (first floor) and made a new menu.
The tortilla soup is still the best in town, and now you can order popovers here and that wonderful strawberry butter.
Service is lacking. I was asked three times if I was done with my plate, and I wasn't but I finally just said "take it," so the wait staff would stop placing their hand on my plate. We felt very rushed.
To top it off, the drinks were awful. I wanted something refreshing so I went for the $12 NM Blueberry Margarita -doesn't that sound refreshing on a warm day? Well, it tasted like Mad Dog 20/20. It was the worst cocktail I've ever tasted.
My advice -maybe order 1/2 dozen pop overs and leave it at that -everything else...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGood evening. Iām 60 years old and when I was 13 my mother took me to the Mermaid Bar for my 13th birthday. At 13 your very skeptical of momās idea of a birthday lunch celebration. To my surprise 7 of my best friends awaited me and the staff was ready too! Such wonderful food, staff and delicious cakes have brought me back with my daughters and now granddaughters. As of the last 4 visits the food has changed so much itās not the same and those childrenhood memories have been crushed. Especially the sandwiches, salads and just about everything!! My salmon on the tacos was so over cooked (second) time now I couldnāt even eat it. So dissatisfied with it all Iām sad to say I will never go back to by beloved Mermaid bar...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy family has been going to NorthPark since it was just the L with Neiman's, Titcheās, and JC Penny, and have been eating at the Mermaid bar for as long as its been there. In recent years, there must have been a change in management (a clear budget downgrade) and the quality has totally dropped off. What used to be a simple delicious spot to have lunch while shopping has lost nearly all its charm. The menu has changed and the food quality is not the same. The staff as well has changed. For years it was a group of familiar faces each time, and now when we walk past the restaurant, itās clearly become just another āmall jobā which is not what a Neimanās restaurant deserves. Just sad to lose...
