Our waiter was nice, food is meh, but host service was unacceptable - it’s very rude to lie to your customers and not honor reservations. Decided to go for brunch with my boyfriend on a Saturday. I had checked OpenTable that morning and there was a ton of availability so I didn’t bother making a reservation. We got there at noon and were told by the host downstairs that they couldn’t seat the two of us until 1 pm. We let him put our names down but as we were walking out to do some shopping I decided to look at OpenTable because there had been so much availability that morning that I was surprised it was such a long wait. To my surprise there were reservations open for 12:15, 12:30, 12:45, etc. when we had been told we couldn’t be seated until 1. I made a 12:15 reservation and returned to the host stand, where the host told us that he still couldn’t seat us because he had several reservations coming in at 12:30. I showed him the reservation we made and he kept making excuses, including that because the 12:30 reservations had been made before us, they would take precedence. I wasn’t born yesterday so I know that’s not how restaurant reservations work. It’s the restaurant’s responsibility to only take reservations that can be honored. Now, I know that this may have been an error on management’s part to make so many tables available online. However, it was handled in a way that showed no respect or grace. Why should a guest have to advocate for their reservation being honored when that should be a given? No apology was offered for initially giving us false information. He did eventually find us a table after much back and forth, but again without so much as a single word expressing regret for the inconvenience or for lying to us. I recommended this restaurant to a friend literally last week, but unfortunately I doubt I’ll return to a place that seems not to mind treating people so poorly. If you want delicious Italian food in a well-run restaurant with great service,...
Read moreA Deeply Disappointing Experience at Terra at Eataly Dallas
We recently visited Terra inside Eataly in Dallas to celebrate my daughter's 15th birthday, and unfortunately, our experience was far from pleasant. From the moment we arrived, the hostess greeted us with a long face and an unfriendly attitude. When my wife politely requested a change to a table next to ours that was facing the grill, the hostess hesitated and bluntly said "No" without any explanation or effort to check if the table was available. Her attitude was dismissive and unacceptable.
To make matters worse, the table we were seated at was near a service area where several waiters and waitresses were loudly discussing unpaid wages and even cursing. This created a very uncomfortable atmosphere for us and ruined the celebratory mood.
The food at Terra was extremely overpriced for what it was - basic pasta and bread. The portions were ridiculously small, and charging $10 for four tiny pieces of bread is simply outrageous, especially considering they make their own bread, and you can buy a whole loaf of bread for the same price. The quality of the food did not justify the exorbitant prices, and the small portions left us unsatisfied.
To add insult to injury, the other restaurants within the Eataly store offer better food and service than their so-called upscale star restaurant, Terra.
We were extremely disappointed with our experience at Terra, especially because we are fans of Eataly and its products. While we will continue buying groceries at their store and dining at their other restaurants, we will not be returning to Terra restaurant. The unfriendly attitude of the hostess and the uncomfortable atmosphere created by the service staff were unacceptable. We strongly urge management to take action and address these issues to prevent other customers from having a similarly...
Read moreA coworker suggested that I dine at Terra, located above Eataly. I honestly enjoyed the browsing Eataly more than I enjoyed my meal at Terra. Considering the reviews and first impressions with the decor and atmosphere. The table coverings, multitude of bushy plants and vines and color scheme made for the illusion of dining outside of an Italian villa. So much potential, I expecting a high-quality meal and what we received fell very short of that.
While the place was mostly empty on a Monday night, we had to wait to be sat at a table and it took even longer for a server to acknowledge us. When I did attempt to order a featured drink, I was advised they were out of an ingredient to make it. Our server suggested something along the same lines, which ended up being very good, but now I have no idea what it was. Service was decent, nothing to complain about, nor above and beyond.
I was disappointed in the menu overall. Lamp chop skewers instead of lamb chops. No chicken or veal parmesan or chicken piccata offerings. I settled for a butternut squash ravioli with truffle butter. While the flavor was good, the presentation and portion size was lacking. There was not enough sauce even covering the ravioli; have you eaten dried out pasta?? It certainly isn't my ideal way to spend over $20. The chunks of squash were very inconsistent. One bite would be ridiculously overcooked and mushy, another bite was dang near raw. There was absolutely no uniformity about the dish.
In an attempt to salvage the meal, I ordered the tiramisu, which had received amazing reviews. It was entertaing watching the outside wrap being removed and unleashing a cascade of creme. Surprisingly, it actually tasted pretty decent and was made well. Unfortunately, it didn't negate the poor quality...
