The good. The salt caramel latte. The eggnog latte.
The bad. The doughnuts. We arrived at around noon and the doughnuts looked and tasted stale. Let me just say that if you think the doughnuts here are good, you have been eating bad doughnuts your whole life, so I feel for you.
We tried: Horchata, a raised yeast doughnut, was very dense and was not airy & light, which a decent raised should be. Very sweet. Didnât taste like horchata.
Butter & Salt, which is pretty much a copycat of a famous doughnut shop in SoCal, because theyâve been doing this flavor since the day they opened their first shop in Costa Mesa a couple years before The Salty Donut opened their first shop. I may be wrong, but I do believe the doughnut shop that started on 17th St in Costa Mesa, Ca was the first to ever make a Butter & Salt. Anyway, enough history. The cake doughnut was extremely dense. Cake doughnuts are going to be more dense than a raised, but this one was incredibly dense, probably over mixed. The glaze wasnât buttery, but was salty.
Traditional Glazed was a yeast raised, which was very dense like the horchata. Didnât really taste vanilla or anything, just sweet and stale.
We had another one (name slips my mind) that was dusted with powdered sugar and filled with a jam, but honestly didnât crack into that one because the others were not very good. Itâs still sitting in the box with the other halves of the ones we tried. Really had no desire to eat more sugar if this is what the experience was going to be like. Rather save the sugar intake for something thatâs good and will bring pleasure. Sometimes the truth hurts or maybe most people are easily satisfied because they havenât experienced the same quality that others have. It was my wife and my first experience here. My mother, father, brother and his wife also tried it before and they all shared the same...
Read moreI recently had the unfortunate experience of visiting the Salty Donut Shop on Bishop Arts, and I must say it was one of the worst encounters I've ever had at a donut shop. The lady at the register was incredibly rude and displayed a complete lack of professionalism throughout my entire visit.
Firstly, I had specifically requested that my donuts be individually boxed as they were meant to be a corporate treat. However, despite my clear instruction, she carelessly packed them all in a bag without any concern for my request. When I kindly reminded her of my initial request and asked her to transfer them to individual boxes, she became moody and irritable, making the whole situation highly uncomfortable.
To make matters worse, as she reluctantly transferred the donuts to the boxes, she deliberately left out one of the donut holes as if it was some form of protest against my simple request. This behavior is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. Customers should not be subjected to such pettiness and disrespect.
The overall level of service I received was abysmal. The lady at the register lacked basic customer service skills and seemed disinterested in providing a pleasant experience. Her rudeness and moodiness overshadowed any positive aspects of the visit, making it a regrettable experience.
Considering the poor service and unprofessionalism exhibited by the staff at the Salty Donut Shop on Bishop Arts, I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment to anyone. There are plenty of other donut shops in the area that value their customers and provide exceptional service. Save yourself the frustration and disappointment and give this place a miss.
I visited the shop on October 20th at 10 am in case a...
Read moreWhen we went, they were out of kolches, which was the main reason we wanted to check this place out. We had high hopes that just were not met. For the prices of each donut around $5 each, I was hoping they were spectacular. Sadly, I was mistaken and our family was extremely let down. We ordered a cookies and cream roll, which has cream cheese icing, and completely threw the taste off 0/10 for all 4 of us. The buttered pecan poptart was average and tasted more like a scone, I ate it but would not get it again 4/10. The churro dulce de leche donut was good, but not good enough to get again either 6/10. The glazed was a terrible letdown, and no one in my family enjoyed it 0/10. The cookie monster has a great concept with the edible cookie dough type filling. However, the donut itself was extremely tough, which again was disappointing 3/10. The final donut we tried was the horchata donut, probably the one I was most excited about. It states it's soaked for 24 hours, which did not seem that way since most of the donut was tough and hard to chew. It did have a great flavor, but paired with the meringue topping, it was not good. The topping was really heavy with nutmeg, which overpowered the entire donut...another 0/10 for us. Almost $29 for 6 pastries that just weren't that good. We actually stopped at another donut spot on the way home bc their selection was lacking based on what...
