I normally READ to have a better understanding of Why we write some of our reviews. I’ve also learned since I’ve been on this platform and offering my feedback and or opinions about different experiences I have had. All comments don’t need to be negative is my thoughts.
As soon as I walked in I was instantly greeted. Yes, I felt a tad bit out of place being that I was the only person of color walking in this establishment. No, I didn’t CLINCH my wallet like folks do in the movies but I did offer a selection of people the very same (Oooohhh she must be lost look) that I received by some of the other individuals and their children. It’s so sad but kinda funny that in 2023 people Aren’t considered equal. This is such a nice Ice Cream shop. I was offered a selection of samples wether it was the Strawberry Shortcake (Vegan) might I add it was very sweet and delicious. All the staff here were pleasant. I can voluntarily leave a five star rating because my experience was just that. I’m glad I got the opportunity to check this spot out. I spoke with Manuel he serviced on my selections of great samples and gave me a little more on-site of the hours, this ice cream shop is open Friday-Saturday until 12a.m. Sunday-Thursday till 11p.m. I’ll definitely be back to try out other selections maybe...
Read moreI have been a big fan of Van Leeuwen for years, going to their shops almost every time I’m in New York City. I was super excited when they opened their first location in Dallas at West Village and have been there several times with all positive experiences. This location is closer to me so I thought I’d check it out and it is not up to standard.
First, there was only one poor woman working, making it a much longer experience than it needed to be. Not her fault in the slightest, she was very nice and apologized for the wait even though she had nothing to do with it. Second, it was the smallest single scoop I have ever gotten at Van Leeuwen or any ice cream shop. I was perplexed by the comments talking about the pricing here as it’s comparable to Jeni’s and other shops but at this location, you get less for your money. Third, they need to install sun shades in the windows as the afternoon sun is blinding and it also makes it quite warm in the shop while you are trying to eat your ice cream.
Overall, their ice cream is fantastic but skip this location or buy it at...
Read moreI'm not what most would probably consider a very price sensitive consumer and thought the other reviews might be overblowing it a bit. They're not.
First, the menu shows an animation of 2 scoops going into a cone at around $8.50. I ordered that. My total was something like $11. I asked why. "The cone is $1.50 extra". That's fine, but a very misleading menu.
Second, for two scoops ever so slightly larger than a golf ball + a cone for almost 12 dollars, you just can't help but feel ripped off.
As to the quality. The cone was fine but not great. The chocolate was great. The latte was myeh. Overall we have better options around like Baldo's.
As to the service...I'm not going to beleaguer a retail employee but it was lacking at the very least.
Overall, the experience was less than stellar and even though I can walk to the shop from my house, I won't...
