San Marcos Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Danville

Horrible service and food. There is better Mexican food in Danville, please look elsewhere.

It took 30 minutes to receive our drinks and over 90 minutes to receive our food; we never saw our waiter once in that time either. We never received drink refills or any updates on why our food was taking so long.

Many tables near us had sat after us, finished eating, and left before we even saw our food. Many of us didn’t receive silverware and our waiter didn’t bring us any when we brought this up to him, so we had to share our unused utensils with each other.

My salad had clearly been sitting out for a long time before it was brought to me so the chicken was cold and the cheese underneath had congealed. I explained this to the waiter and requested to have the salad removed from my bill, and said that I’d happily pay for my drink and appetizer. The waiter argued that the cheese was congealed because the chicken was hot. Yes, the chicken “was” indeed hot at one point, but not when I got it.

I waited an extra half hour for the manager to consider my request to take the salad off the bill. When the manager finally showed up, he took only 15% off the salad because i had eaten some of the chicken. Then the waiter messed up the charge on my credit card so he had to rerun it.

Karaoke night at 7 pm is not family friendly. There were very inappropriate songs being sung ... after waiting an extremely long time for our food we hear a racist song being sung. At this point we are unable to get up and leave because our food is in front of us. My husband didn’t get the correct order and when complained to manager about that she said it said what he got on the ticket... welll duh but that isn’t what he wanted, and what he got was full of bone fragments he couldn’t even eat it. My chimichangas were supposed to be fried, they were soggy. My 8 year old daughter had to spend most of dinner with her fingers in her ears so she didn’t hear the trash being played. If roles had been reversed and I would have rapped the racist song the managers wouldn’t have told everyone it was a free country. Well guess what it is a free country and I will never be stepping foot into this establishment or the one in Chatham ever again. I am very disappointed that I can’t take my child out to dinner without having to worry what she’s over hearing. While it is a free country and everyone is entitled to their opinion there should be a level of respect given to everyone and I felt very disrespected tonight. Update: something changed a year or so ago and they got a new menu and service drastically improved. This is our go to place for Mexican food now.

Original: I don't understand how people can actually rate this restaurant so high. The service is horrible. We have been here about 3 - 4 times, and even when the party is as low as 4 - 5 people it takes well over 30 min to get out food. Any larger of a group and it takes over an hour. When the food does come out it is always half hot and half cold. I don't think the cooks there know how to cook multiple dishes at the same time so everything gets done at once. Once you get past the food temperature you are left with bland food. I have tried different dishes and everything I tired hardly had any taste. My wife and other people in the parties I am with also agree.

If you are looking for a good Mexican place to eat go to El Valarta. The food comes out in about 5-7 minutes (no joke), piping hot, and full of flavor. We only go to San Marcos for going away parties and such for other people. My wife and I never go their on our own and hate the idea of having a party there making everyone else suffer through the horrible...
