Rory's Restaurant — Restaurant in Darien

I have been going to Rory’s for literally decades, and can’t believe I’m writing this. I had not been for awhile, so I was really looking forward to taking a friend there for lunch. Starting with the lobster bisque, which had one bite of lobster and a few small rubbery shrimp, would have had no taste at all if not for the sherry we added. I don’t know how you screw up a Cobb salad but it was inedible, I actually sent it back. The chicken was so rubbery you couldn’t even bite it, and it was so covered in onions that that was its only flavor. Never heard of Bermuda onion on a Cobb before, and my sister is a restaurant critic. The Peremidh used to be our favorite thing on the menu. It was hard, dry an a quarter of the size it was last year. Even the French fries were inedible.. I don’t get out very often anymore and this was supposed to be a special day, turned into a major disappointment. Very sad.

Revised! Was sent a gift card as promised, it arrived a little late but I think that was a mail issue. Went for Sunday brunch and it was fabulous! I went with the same friend, and I had eggs Florentine, which had a large amount of wonderfully thin slices of smoked salmon, the eggs were cooked to perfection. My friend had the traditional Benedict, again cooked to perfection and he said the best he’s ever had. I’m so pleased to post this, and will definitely be going back! The only suggestion I would make is if you are not an onion lover ask them to leave them off your salad, or put them on the side. I had a side salad and the chef definitely loves red onion, it can be a little overwhelming. Otherwise wonderful...

I had been driving for two days...was looking to relax with a few beers and decent food...ordered a michelob ultra & a menu...barmaid gave me a beer and then came over and asked what I wanted to order...I was hungry...ordered mussels, turkey club and salad...brought my mussels and then turkey club...asked for another beer and was informed they were out...I didn't appreciate that at ALL! The decent thing to do would have been to tell me that was last one they had BEFORE I spent a small fortune on food! I got a to go box...she didn't deserve a tip as far as I'm concerned but I DID THE DECENT thing and left 15%...really shouldn't have given her that since it was a to go order...won't go back because of that! Heard her talking to other customers...she said if you drink light beer...what's the DIFFERENCE in the brand as long as it's light...they're all the same🙄...I really only left the tip because of the waitress she had bring my food to...

We stopped into Rory’s for dinner and were immediately surprised how much larger this cozy restaurant and bar feels once inside.

The bar is well appointed with mainly maritime themed decor and has a warm and friendly feel. The dining section seats about 32-36 hungry patrons.

We had to choose from several intriguing menu options plus the nightly specials. The grilled fish was as beautiful as it was tasty! The pastry filled with seasoned ground beef had a subtle spiced influence of middle eastern origin. The broth seemed a bit light for dipping the flavorful pastry, but altogether a rewarding choice.

The dessert 🍨 list included many favorites and the daily specials included profiteroles... yummy too! our server, Layli, was warm, friendly & managed to keep the plates spinning quite well! We’ll be back to explore what they offer...
