We had a large, tired group of grumpy kids and everyone still left happy. After a long day of travel and a delay of getting into our rental we found Miquel's on Yelp and decided to try it out. We had thought it was more seafood than mexican food, but it's not. Mainly mexican style food with a shrimp option. However, it was really good, quick food. Our group hit pretty much everything on the menu, shrimp tacos, regular tacos, salads, burritos, burrito bowls, chips and salsa, etc. Everyone thought their food was great. The host at the window was super friendly and answered all of our questions. This place is a great spot for a food-truck type experience. My burrito bowl was salty for my taste, but not terrible. No other complaints. My wife's shrimp tacos were really good! Chips and salsa okay, not outstanding, but not bad. Everyone else reported that they were satisfied with their food which is unusual for the large group from small kids to adults.
FYI - they have moved from the original location and are in a blue building attached to an ice cream spot. Pictures online are no longer accurate showing the building. The address online will get you very close and they have signs pointing you to the correct location. To avoid walking go the the Waffles Sweet Shop location. They have a covered area for ordering, window for placing the order and a window for picking up the food. The only seating is uncovered picnic tables outside which we had to clean. For restrooms you're directed across the street to the gas station. We were there on a very pleasant day so the tables were great. I can imagine on a sweltering day you'd absolutely melt sitting on those tables.
Overall, great experience. Good Mexican food. Loses one star for the salty burrito bowl and hike across the street...
Read moreWe decided to visit Dauphin Island on our way to Gulfshores for the weekend. We stoped at Miguels Beachn Baja due to their nice reviews on Trip advisor. We are glad we did stop here for lunch. This place is a hidden treasure on the island. Their tacos are delicious and fresh. Keep in mind, this is not a typical mexican restaurant, its more like a southwest restaurant. I was traveling with my wife and her family. They are mexicans and they loved the food. I had shrimps and mahi fish tacos. They were awesome. You must consider that this is a take out food place. They don`t have room inside of the restaurant. They do have a few tables and chairs outside if you want to eat there. If you want some seafood tacos on your next visit to Dauphin Island, this is the best place to go. I would...
Read moreThey need to learn how to make pork carnitas. Those were awful. Have beef tacos also and tasted like someone poured a salt shaker out on them. My wife was suprised do to the fact I usually like salty food. Had chicken tacos also and they were alright but nothing to write home about. Queso was the very bland. And the price of everything is very expensive. Payed $32 for a burrito and six tacos with chips. Could have gone into town and gotten twice the food that you could actually eat for that price. Called them up and said they would refund 4 of the tacos but that's it. After we spent time to drive onto the island and take the food home because it's carry out only that's all you offer? People need to go elsewhere. Horribly disappointed. Sad that locals are...
