My partner and I went in for dinner and opted for non-hibachi menu. Our overall experience was average. Playing and presentation were nice but food quality and taste hit below expectations.
Some observations and/or notes:
The front of house and our wait staff were kind, helpful and attentive to our needs. Our waiter made the effort to highlight key menu items and offer recommendations. Drinks and dessert did come across as sales-pitchy but that's understandable - this place just soft opened and there's a rush to hit revenue after opening costs, staffing, ect
Signage was posted that the restaurant was in a soft opening phase and subject to change or improvements.
The miso soup was bland almost to the point of tastelessness and the starter salad was 1/2 of what you would expect from Red Ginger, Oishi, et al.
Nigiri sushi on the menu is offered in single pieces despite competitors offering dual for the same price points. Was displeased to see my partner's $7 Ebi (sweet shrimp) order come out as a single piece.
Nigiri pieces were smaller than what you would expect. Photos on the review page look more appealing than what was served.
Sushi rice seemed to lack flavor. Sugar and rice vinegar was either not used or done so in smaller quantities.
It's not the worst Japanese restaurant in the Quad Cities area but with better tasting, well established alternatives it's hard to justify the trip and expense.
That being said I'm willing to try Kobe again after some time has passed. Opening a restaurant is hard and some early hits are expected. I hope that the growing pains are ironed out quickly.
A final note - the restaurant received ~20 five-star reviews all within a 24 hour period which seems extremely odd. Spot checking some of these Google Reviews and it's clear there are cases of review farming. Some posts list items that are not offered on the menu (papaya salad,) others were originally written in Mandarin and/or have nonsensical...
Read moreJust left there. We were excited to go because we were hanging out with another family and we wanted to take the kids for a fun experience of a Hibachi restaurant.... You know the engagement of the cook with your table.....the show. Throwing food to catch, talking to you, building the fire train on the grill, squirting liquids into your mouth from across the table, just having fun with you. Us mom's got uur phones out to take pictures and didn't even get one because we got ZERO interaction from our cook, while all the other tables in there were having a blast- all ages young and old. We had 4 adults and 5 kids (ages ranging from 10-15) so we were ready for some fun and nothing!! Very disappointed. Plus not to mention you are paying a higher cost expecting that "show". We don't go out to eat often because of the cost and decided this would be a good time to go out and do dinner with some fun entertainment for the kids. The environment was beautifly done and our waitress was very nice and energetic (despite messing up our drinks several times and both bills, we liked her) but we won't be paying that much again for just food, not knowing if we would get a cook as boring as that again, when we know that's part of what you...
Read moreThey are currently doing their soft opening and can say, hands down, they are ready for the Grand Opening. Starting off with the service, upon arrival, the host opened the door with a greeting and immediately asked if we wanted a table or booth. Within seconds of being seated, our server greeted us at the table and asked for our drinks order. He brought the drinks back and gave us some time to peruse the large menu of options. The overall style of the restaurant had a good blend of stone, metal, and wood. It had a very calming feel.
We went for sushi, but their hibachi options were as vast as the sushi choices. We started our sushi lunch with a california roll and a spicy crab roll. Both were very tasty and a great way to start our lunch. Our special rolls followed shortly after and were absolutely fantastic! I ordered the Lobster california roll, and my husband ordered the Pandora roll. The flavor combinations for both were delightful. At the end of our meal, our server brought out a complimentary sampling of their Japanese mochi ice cream. That was such a wonderful way to conclude our lunch. I'm very excited to return again to try some more of their...
