Terrible customer service. Called in my order and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. Went to the drive through and told the gentlemen that it was a call in order and paid. Waited in line and finally got to the window and the lady didn't say anything to us nor did the lady inside at the window. The lady on the outside started handing several orders to customers behind us still no one saying anything. So I said something to them and they acted like they knew nothing about my order. Suddenly a few people are trying to figure out where my order was. So finally the lady on the outside said that the gentlemen that took my payment didn't let them know I was in line. She did apologize coldly. Finally I got my order and the manager and the inside lady didn't apologize for nothing!!! So what I want to know why call in??? They didn't have it ready anyways even though I was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. Also I asked that all the shakes have whipped topping and not one did. You need to work on your customer service and work on a different situation for call in orders. Also when you are responsible for messing up a order don't act like it's my fault and a sincere apology would be nice!!! This was my first time to portillo's....not...
Read moreThis place is more than a restaurant—it’s a ritual. Whether you’re a die-hard Chicagoan or just curious what the hype’s about, Portillo’s delivers classic comfort food with serious swagger.
The Italian beef? Iconic. Perfectly seasoned, thinly sliced, and soaking in that rich, savory gravy—get it dipped, extra juicy, or with hot giardiniera if you know what’s good for you. The Chicago-style dog? A masterpiece of balance and texture, right down to the snap of the pickle and that neon green relish.
And let’s talk about the cheese fries. Crinkle-cut perfection swimming in molten gold. Zero shame, full satisfaction.
The vibe is fast-paced and fun, with retro decor that feels like a time capsule from Chicago’s golden era. Even when it’s busy (and it often is), the service is impressively efficient and friendly.
Oh—and don’t leave without grabbing a slice of chocolate cake. Rich, moist, and absurdly good. You’ll think about it for days.
Whether you’re visiting or reliving hometown cravings, Portillo’s never misses. Five stars for flavor, speed, and...
Read moreUpdate October 2022: I really only use the drive-through in Davenport. This Portillo's location definitely has turned the corner towards becoming fast food as opposed to a destination. The food is quite good and it is fairly fast, but I don't get the "special" vibe that I get in Sycamore or Downers Grove... This is a different experience.
I'm a huge fan of Portillo's, and I really appreciate having one almost 100 miles closer to home!
This Portillo's definitely has the food down right. The Italian beef is excellent, the salads are great. Unfortunately, this location does not have the "Garbage Salad" which is my favorite by far! I haven't tried the deserts yet.
This Portillo's has the vibe of fast food, but that may be a side effect of both being recently opened and of the local employees being less aware of the Portillo's brand. The Dekalb location had the same problem at first to a much lesser degree because the college kids understood the Portillo's brand. I think that once they hit their stride, the Davenport location will feel more like a...
