Pho King 4 — Restaurant in Davis

Visited in middle of July, new to Davis and hoping to get a decent Asian meal for a late lunch.

We came here because it was rated 4 stars but we realized afterwards that the star standards must be lower at Davis than the Bay Area for Asian food.

It was a very hot day, in the high 90's°F and the place had no AC, just few floor coolers, so the place was warm at best and hot to be real. Flies were frequent visitors to our table.

Service was slow and inattentive. We had to wave down wait staff whenever we needed something, and had to ask for the check at the end.

We ordered basic, typical Vietnamese menu items, nothing fancy, and were gravely disappointed in the quality and flavors of the food. Bahn Mi sandwich was served on a dried out bun and was poorly constructed with the contents barely filling the bun. The pho broth had a weird and sour taste. The beef noodle saute had no flavor. The only saving grace was the mixed BBQ plate, the meats were decently grilled and flavored but nothing else on the platter was remarkable.

The milk tea with boba was a huge disappointment, if not scary. First, the drink definitely had an off flavor and odor, like spoiling dairy, yikes! Second, the boba pearls were so old and had the texture of hard gummy balls. Overall the drinks were unpalatable and inedible.

This experience was so bad I don't know if I'd chance another visit in case the cook was on vacation...

I have been a long time customer of this restaurant. The service has always been great until the last few months. Until, I had an order delivered incorrectly and I received someone else's food. I called the restaurant and was told to keep the food and my food would be remade and delivered. Then, as I started to eat the food, the driver showed up with my food in hand and demanded the other food back. I told him that I had started eating it and showed him. He walked into my house, rearranged the food with his bare hands to make it look like a bite had not been taken and took the food. I informed the restaurant of this inappropriate behavior and they didn't seem to care. The food also gave me food poisoning that night.

I decided to give them a second chance and ordered again. The delivery was over 2 hours late. I called a total of 3 times in that period and was assured that the food was on it's way with the driver. After two hours of waiting for food, I found out that it was never made. The restaurant cancelled my order. And when I requested they fulfill the order free of charge as a sign of good faith for a long time customer - they refused.

This restaurant used to have great food and delivery. But recently, it has gone on a steep decline in their quality of food, delivery and...

I wish I could recommend this place. I wanted to love it. I came in with my Dad. The service was absolutely unacceptable. The young woman working sat us and left. Then when taking our order she leaned on the table like we were taking forever.. The food was quick to come that was nice. Not once after receiving the food were we checked on. I had to find her to ask for a to-go container. 20 minutes go by after receiving a to-go container and we aren’t given a receipt so I assume we just go up to the front since we pay there anyway. (There’s signs on the table stating to pay upfront.) The woman is helping a group of young men, I’m assuming they’re students at UC Davis and she is of course flirting with them. Not a problem i’m just waiting my turn. She sees me and displays obvious attitude saying you know you’re supposed to wait for a receipt right? Well I waited and one was never brought to me. She then asked what table were we at and obviously I don’t know what table number we were at. The table numbers aren’t even displayed.
