It was raining outside and I was even being followed around by a stranger. I decided to go by the nearest restaurant for about 20 minutes until my ride came to come and get me that wasn’t too far from the amtrak station. Usually restaurants like Dennys or ihop let you just order and coffee or soda for free or if you need time before you order you’re more than welcome to stay until you decide to order or you could leave there is no pressure. I thought tres hermanas would be the same thing. The host was nice, but the waiter that served me (not sure of his name but he wore a backwards hat and a grey shirt) was surprised that I just wanted water and the complimentary chips with salsa. Maybe I was too stressed about rain and the stranger following me but I also understood maybe I could just buy something cheap but the waiter wasn’t helpful he just said “we can’t do that” with a stern face but with other customers who weren’t my complexion he was nice and helpful. Yet when I told him I’m not sure if I want something to eat but I could pay for something he didn’t make any effort. So I just asked for guacamole and chips that were 7.99 plus tax YET I was only brought the guacamole. I thought maybe I’ll have extra separate chips not having to pay for complimentary so I asked for a separate waitress / hostess to help me with the situation and she was very nice and helpful and brought the owner who was rude. I tried explaining the situation that I understand if I have to pay something to stay inside the rain but I rather pay for soda instead because I am still paying for something rather than 7.99 for just guacamole and not extra chips? And the manager kept telling me “ma’am this is a business” to which I said “I understand I’m not afraid to pay but I rather pay for a soda that’s $2 rather than $7.99 solely for guacamole (small amount) and he responded “well it stopped raining you can go and you don’t have to pay anything” so I just left and it was still raining but I rather leave than deal with two men that were rude to a black woman that just wanted to pay something as a paying customer and not stand in the rain while dealing with a stranger...
Read moreDavis, CA. All generations were enjoying the food here tonight. Loved the sweet servers, and ours was the best: Alexia. She was so easygoing and pleasant but sharp eyed, she brought me water without my having to ask for a refill.
Fresh, great Californian Mexican food. The refried beans were so fresh and creamy I blinked and my husband had eaten all of his so I didn’t get to try it, just a smidge was left mixed into his lettuce garnish lol. Fresh house made flour tortillas came with my Mexican chicken and rice soup. If you follow me you know that’s what i love to order: Sopa de Pollo.
Tres Hermanas’ chicken and rice soup was like what I’ve had elsewhere except the spice level and seasonings were dialed up. It had lots of tender stewed chicken, chicken broth, rice, zucchini, onions, celery, carrots and garlic plus a little tomato base and ground up peppers. Alexia brought me a side of lime wedges and Diablo Sauce. If you like spice try the Diablo Sauce! It took me by the throat and swung me around a couple times. Note that the soup did not have chunks of avocado or fresh onion as a topping but I didn’t miss them here.
My husband also had the flautas which were more the size of taquitos. He declined the crema but ate every bit of the guacamole, also the rice. The chips and salsa were also very fresh. The salsa was made with fresh tomatoes blended with cilantro, onion, salt, jalapeños and a bit of raw garlic, very bold. Maybe some lime, maybe not. Really delicious.
We’ve been in Florida for 12 years for his job but he grew up in La Habra eating Mexican street food (refried beans in a tortilla cone for 25 cents, etc.) and he’s missed it.
Thanks Alexia and Tres Hermanas for a good welcome back visit...
Read moreUnfortunately I have to give 1 star here because I had a bad experience. The place is nice and big, and the food is decent, although overpriced for the quality. Up to here I would have given 4 or 5 stars, because the environment and the terrace was very pleasant. However, first of all the service was extremely slow, even though the restaurant was not even half-full and there were at least 4-5 waiters/waitresses serving. Despite telling our waitress to hurry up because we had to leave soon, it took more than half an hour to serve 4 very simple dishes and more than 20 minutes to get my credit card back after paying. I actually had to go inside to retrieve my card because it was taking too long. But the worst part was that they deliberately manipulated the bill: I received a ticket missing the tips bottom part for a total including taxes of $66.54. Since I didn't want to add any tips for the huge delay in the service and was in a hurry I just signed that ticket and left. A few days later, to my surprise, I received a charge of $75.54 from this restaurant out of nowhere. I won't come here again, I have had similar food in other Mexican restaurants in Davis for a much lower price and without having...
