I want to start off by saying that my previous experiences at Pachama in Sacramento, at the farmers market, and the old Davis location (the one that closed a couple years ago) have always been amazing, and the coffee was always the best each time. I was super stoked when I found out Pachama was reopening in Davis.
The first time I went to the new location in Davis I ordered the iced Lavender latte and it was pretty good! The staff was really helpful and friendly as well.
The second time I went to this location I ordered the same thing because I liked it the first time around, but this time it was not good. It’s tasted watery and you couldn’t really taste the lavender. It didn’t taste like it did the first time I had it. I asked the barista to add more lavender and it tasted okay. My friend ordered the same thing and hers was not good either, she asked for more lavender too. My other friend ordered a shot of espresso and her shot of espresso tasted really off. I’ve had espresso previously at the other location in Sacramento and the espresso was always very smooth and honestly really good.
I’m not leaving this review just to leave a bad review. I truly love the Pachama brand and I love their core values and usually really love their coffee. Im leaving this review as genuine feedback so hopefully the necessary tweaks can be made (and the Pachama name can be restored in Davis! - just kidding, just being a dramatic 😂)
I want to give the new Davis store the benefit of the doubt because they opened the new store during all the craziness with Covid, so I’m sure training the new employees and overall just opening a new store during this time was really difficult. I will definitely give this store a try again, and hope the Davis community does too. Welcome back Pachama Davis we’re here to...
Read moreSimilar experience as other recent reviewers. The one sentence summary is: Too expensive for what you get. I did go here 5 or 6 times before finally deciding it wasn't worth it anymore.
Credit card fee on top of ridiculous prices: I get it, the bank is the enemy. But put that cost on the menu price. Nobody carries cash anymore.
Lattes and other espresso drinks: What you would expect. Creamy with a hint of coffee, and plenty of sugar if you get one of their flavored drinks.
Black coffee: Medium roast was on the darker side and fairly bitter without cream. A touch of cream brings out the caramel and dark cherry they were probably going for. Without cream I really struggle, especially with the last few sips. Not something I want from a $4.50 cup.
Cold brew: This is what I usually get here. It's pretty good but sooo overpriced.
Service: Employees are fine, I question management. Only one person working during the morning is a red flag. Even if the other person is on break you should have a supervisor or something to cover that.
I understand they're trying to use a business model that is good for the farmers, but I'm not a charity. If the cost was 20% higher than the competition I would understand. But it's like 50% more or...
Read moreNostalgic and cathartic! Those words sound extreme for a humble coffee shop like Pachamama Davis but I'm not kidding. I used to go to the original Pachamama Davis during my undergrad years when it was sharing the building with the art gallery. I was introduced to great coffee there and studied there all the time. When Pachamama decided not to renew the lease at the art gallery, I was quite devastated. Though Temple Coffee on G street was established at the time, I thought the coffee at Pachamama to be superior. I graduated, moved a couple times, and years later I saw on the Pachamama Instagram page that they will be coming back to Davis! To come back here after all this time was quite meaningful to me. I got a Guatemala pour over (like the good ol' days) and it really DID NOT DISAPPOINT. All the memories of my undergrad years flooded back. Their pour overs (I'm not much of an espresso guy) is probably some of the best pour overs I've ever had. And their bean quality is seriously top-notch. I cannot recommend this place enough for their quality of coffee! The interior is quite, as you can see from the pictures, and has some decent seating to study or read. Wish I could have stayed here longer but nevertheless loved...
