Dewberry 1850 — Restaurant in Dayton

The restaurant staff is so nice but the past couple days really looks like they’re struggling. I was disappointed to not see the usual employees like Al, Jordan, Sara, or Lauren. It looked like management was trying to run the bar and failing miserably. First my server said she couldn’t get into the room where the sweet tea is because they lock it up and she couldn’t find a manager. Same with my cocktail because they ran out of Sailor Jerry and they were too busy at the bar to get it. No bar back or anything I guess and they keep everything locked up. My server said my ticket didn’t print to the back because their systems haven’t worked since Microsoft failed months ago? So it took over an hour to get my food, it was pretty good when it came out though. I had the short rib risotto. My server said she had to go on break so she wouldn’t get in trouble. So I waited over 30 minutes for the check. She ended up comping my meal but I said I’d pay for it anyways. She thanked me and said she really appreciated it because they are making them PAY OUT IF THEIR OWN POCKET for comped meals now!? How can you have broken systems and make your waitstaff pay for it? It looked like she ended up in tears later on. Their menu has been the same for a couple years. It would be nice to see a chef take more pride and create a new menu like they used to...

We popped in at 1:14 for a late lunch and finally got the bill at 2:45. The gentleman working g seemed to be the only person manning the entire place after 2.

The Reuben was good- certainly not fantastic. The shrimp was lukewarm- like it had been sitting around and not worth the $14 price tag for what we received. My son enjoyed the tenders and fries.

The waiter was nice, we asked for more water and honestly could have had more - he was just too busy. We asked for the check a couple of times, but again he was just running trying to get food out.

The atmosphere is nice and lively. Being there was an Ohio state game on and folks at the bar, they could have done with more employees.

There are more places in Dayton that offer exceptional food for the same price, we were waiting on friends so wanted to dine close.

My mother and I went there this morning. Was not overly impressed. The atmosphere was beautiful and the music was very relaxing. However, we didn't know if we should seat ourselves or wait on staff. We didn't see staff, so we ended up asking another family who informed us to sit ourselves. We got our bill put on the table right after ordering and before our food even came out. Then, when they brought us our food 35min later they had our food and two other tables mixed up. The guy that brought us our food was very nice and friendly. Our waitress appeared to be having a bad day or something because she didn't smile and sounded like she was annoyed when asking about our order. We had pancakes and the banana walnut French toast, and we're not overly impressed...
