The review at the bottom was the first review i made about this specific cafe, the owner messaged me so quickly to clear up any miscommunications, they were very pleasant to talk to and even offered to remake my drink, i happily declined as i know it’s hard for small businesses right now and do not want to take away from profit, again i would definitely recommend coming here for their chocolate croissants!
“i’m not one to leave reviews on things, but this is the third time i’ve been into this cafe and the customer service each time has just been awful, i understand everyone has their days, but the other two times i went and this most recent time it has been the same girl. The environment when you first walk in and they greet you just seems fake (i know it’s customer service and everyone is fake haha) but they just look miserable working there. The food is absolutely amazing it is the coffee that in my opinion is not the best, i did ask what one of the lattes tasted like, the cinnamon toast crunch, and she described it as tasting like cinnamon toast crunch cereal. when they put my drink out they only called for “riley cup of milk” and i was a little confused, so after waiting for like maybe 2 minutes for someone who was working on drinks to come out, i asked what a drink was next to the milk and was met with slight attitude in the lady’s tone of voice saying “the cinnamon toast crunch latte” and i informed her that the only name they had called for a riley was for the milk and she kinda, snapped? and was like “well that’s not your order” but not once did they call my name for the order, everyone just seemed to rude and not very friendly, my coffee taste like an americano with some cinnamon, just straight black coffee. but i would 100% recommend coming here if you like pastries because they...
Read moreI am absolutely thrilled to have discovered Val's Bakery—a true gem in the world of pastry! Every item I tried exceeded expectations, and the overall experience was delightful, though with some minor quirks that didn’t detract from the quality. To sample the menu, I ordered three different pastries, and each one left a lasting impression: Caprese Croissant: A brilliant combination of flaky, buttery pastry filled with the fresh, vibrant flavors of tomato, mozzarella, and basil. It was an absolute masterpiece, both in taste and execution. Butter Croissant: Classic and flawless. The texture was perfectly airy and delicate, with a satisfying buttery richness that melts in your mouth. Easily one of the best I’ve had. Nutella Cruffin: While it didn’t quite reach the same level of magic as the other two, it was still an indulgent treat. The flaky layers were lovely, and the Nutella filling was generous and decadent. • Triple Berry Danish Fold: A standout item! The sweet, tangy mix of berries paired with the creamy cheese filling was a perfect match.
The coffee was good—not groundbreaking, but certainly a nice complement to the pastries. The bakery has a warm, inviting vibe that enhances the experience. However, it is a very small space, which led to some congestion given the long line of eager customers. Additionally, the interior felt a bit foggy for some reason, which was slightly odd but not a dealbreaker. Overall, Val’s Bakery delivers exceptional pastries and creates an atmosphere that celebrates the love of good food. I can understand why so many people flock here—it’s worth the wait! If you’re a pastry enthusiast, this place should definitely be on your list. I can’t wait to return and try more of...
Read moreThese folks are very popular, justifiably. Their puff pastry is simply amazing: fresh every day, flaky on the inside, crunchy on the outside. The other baked goods here are also very good too.... or what we have had of it. We always come in for the puff: croissants, pain au chocolate, palmiers etc. Many of these also have creative fillings, including some savory options, which I am especially fond of.
My wife and I also get coffee or matcha based beverages. These are reliably very good, including the seasonal specials, if not as unique as the baking. We do have several quality coffee spots here in Dayton. This one is among the best, in my opinion.
The atmosphere in this shop is especially vibrant and fun, mainly because of the happy crowd that's typically in here. If you plan to come in for work or a serious meeting, the number of people in here might be distracting.
The staff members have also been friendly and energetic, every time we have come in. It's neat that the point of sale here does not have a tip screen, though there is a jar on the counter. The first time I came here I asked the barista about this and she told me that was because everyone who works here get's real wages, which I think is a noble commitment. Jerks should not receive free service! In spite of this, the prices here seem normal to me, especially given that the baking is so fresh and special.
The only cautions here are to come in early, especially if you want the coveted puff, and to expect both a line (though it moves quickly), and full sitting area. This place will often sell out of most baked goods, before closing time, even on...
