Cafe Du Japon — Restaurant in Daytona Beach

Excellent sushi! That was my first visit... We went last night around 6, walked in and waited a few minutes as there were no clean tables, finally sat down by the window in the outdoor furniture setting. Not the most comfortable! 2 other couples came in after us over the next 15 minutes, and got better tables, although they were still dirty...and they got served first...? We waited because we were hungry, after 25 minutes got a menu and card for ordering. Gave drink orders, and started looking over the menu. Pictures and menu didn't match the order card. We finally got our sodas. Everything we wanted to order we had to write in. 20 minutes getting the order straight and written down and still no waitress. We waited for another 15 minutes and I noticed the other 2 tables had ordered and 1 already had their food and we still hadn't ordered. We already invested over an hour in this meal that seemed it would never arrive. So, we left. My girl went and told the waitress we were leaving and why. Her reply was they were short...

Stopped in by myself last night. Hard to find. No signage whatsoever. Kinda odd, I think. Thought they were closed because door wouldn't open. It happened to many throughout my 2 hours there! Odd again. Sat myself at a small table. Should have sat at the sushi bar, but it was crowded. Good sign. Young waiter acknowledged me right away with menus, chopsticks and dishes. He took my drink order of house sake. Pictures in menu book looked delicious! Sake arrived, waiter disappeared. Waved him down 15 minutes later to give him my order. 2 rolls and a sashimi appetizer. Timely arrivals and fabulous!! So good, I ordered another sake and one more roll. Sake arrived..... roll came 15 minutes later. Staff was very friendly. Overall: food is outstanding. Beautifully prepared and delicious. Staff friendly but a bit unorganized. The building needs a complete makever, a whole coat of paint everywhere and a good cleaning. Everything felt sticky. They would triple their business if they just cleaned up the place and had a proper entrance! I...

Edit after reading some reviews: some nights are very busy because they dont open till 5 (not sure why someone reviewed when they went in at lunchtime because they aren’t open then), when theres many people and only so many staff then it could take time to get your food, but a wait should be expected at any food place you go to. Also someone claimed to not go there if you have a life threatening emergency, why would you go anywhere but a hospital if you have a life threatening emergency?! On another note, if you’ve only been once and didn’t have a good experience, then you should give it a second try.

I never liked sushi until I came here, been coming here for many years now, even my younger kids love it! Always my birthday treat every year. They have a great variety, most of the sushi is original and can’t be found at other places, good prices, amazing staff and an overall enjoyment.
