Tiano’s Cucchina Italiana is not a quiet, intimate restaurant with linen tablecloths and candles. Rather, it is that other type of Italian restaurant so common in large cities and small villages throughout Italy, the open-air restaurant on the piazza. It is the kind of place where families and friends meet to enjoy a hearty meal, good wine, and pleasant conversation. Tiano’s has outdoor dining, of course, but also has indoor tables. The floor to ceiling windows on the exterior walls visually connect the indoor diners to the pedestrian mall of Victory Circle, but provide for climate control necessary for Florida’s summer rains, heat, and humidity. The layout is spacious, bright, and airy. Everything is impeccably clean. It’s a bit loud inside, but then so are the piazza restaurants in Italy.
The service we received from the staff was prompt and very personable, attentive without being overbearing. No fewer than four staff members stopped at the table briefly at different times to make sure we had everything we wanted. Our waitress, Michelle, was charming as well as efficient, engaging in pleasant chat but focused on answering our questions and getting our order right.
The wine list offers a good selection of Italian and American wines in a wide range of prices. The rustic bread was served with a dish of olive oil, grated cheese, and “Tiano’s” drizzled in cursive script with Balsamic vinegar. A nice touch showing attention to detail.
We prefaced our dinner with the Toasted Ravioli appetizer, a staple in the Italian restaurants in our native St. Louis, but uncommon in most of the country. Tiano’s has mastered the dish featuring savory toasted ravioli shells stuffed with sweet, creamy Ricotta cheese and Marinara sauce for dipping.
Dinner entrées include a salad or soup. My wife had a crisp Caesar salad, and I had the nicely seasoned Pasta e Fagioli soup. For her entrée, she ordered the Chicken Francese over angel hair pasta, while I had the Lobster Ravioli, which also includes mussels, clams, and shrimp. Both dishes arrived piping hot and nicely presented. The portions are generous, so plan on delicious leftovers, especially if you save room for dessert. The sauces on both dishes had balanced seasoning, very flavorful without any over-dominant spices, and were of a perfect consistency. Making our choices was difficult, given the enticing selection of entrées. We look forward to trying some of the other dishes offered.
The restaurant is on a pedestrian mall, so it’s not easy to spot from your car. I suggest looking at a map of Daytona One to locate the place before you get there. You will need to park near Copper Bottom or the Guitar Center and walk over to the mall. It’s definitely...

Read moreWe went there today for the market that was happening. I was very disappointed in the service although the food was great. unfortunately, this is what happened to us. We got sat at 2pm and our food didn't come until 2:50pm. I've been in the food service industry and was disappointed most of all on how management took care of our concern. Everyone else around us was sat at least 30 min after if and got their food before us so I asked the waiter to check on when our food was going to come out. She did and came back about 5 min lateer to say it's getting plated which took another 10 min to come out. Then we asked for management because at that point we realized it's been since 2pm that we got sat down. we expressed that the food was amazing but the food took way to long to get here. She expressed that the kitchen was a little backed up due to the market. I totally understand that but the hostess in the front should have been prepared for this in case of the "kitchen was backed up". I know this was not the case because I've been a server. Either way she proceeded to say let me pull the check to see at what time the food was entered and so she did and said that it was put in at 2:38pm which is our normal time and everything looked normal as far as timing. Then I expressed again that is not the time we got sat down, we got sat down at 2pm which means she took 38 mins for her to come back to take our full order. The manager just said "Then I will talk to the server about this" honestly I felt like that was not enough and didn't feel the sincere "apology". Didn't even take the consideration that I have a 5 year old and a 1 year old hungry. We not looking for any freebies but if you are going to be busy, please make sure you set the expectations to the guest when they walk in the door. Re-Training of your staff is need from a management standpoint. I would never make someone feel that way. Very...
