Service Is Everything!! My family and I have patronized this establishment many times in the past, even with their mediocre service. We kept going back, because the food is actually pretty good. But today's bad service was enough! Let me start by saying that the error partly lied with me. Yes, as a customer, I can admit when I, too, am wrong. I ordered the Panang Curry dish and forgot to advise the server to omit the peanuts; so when I got my dish and tasted the overwhelmingly crunchy texture, I asked a server if peanuts were included and she replied "yes" and walked away. I tried to tolerate the dish and ate a couple more bites, but the abundance of crushed peanuts became unbearable. The other server must have noticed the displeasure on my face, because she walked directly over to our table. At that point, I asked if I could replace my sauce with one that excludes peanuts. Her response: "but you have already started eating." I replied advising that I was well aware I began eating -- I was simply asking for sauce without peanuts. Her next response was that the menu reads the dish includes peanuts. Can you believe this?!! She eventually replaced the sauce, but what she brought out was far less (a tiny square bowl) than what I paid for. To make matters worse, when I asked for a different plate (mind you, I had to ask for a different plate), she handed me a small appetizer plate to transfer my rice, scallops and second serving of sauce into (see attached photos). We have certainly noticed a decline in their customer service since changing mgmt, but still chose to patronize their business. Well...many times in the past, but...
Read moreVisited the restaurant right when it opened. There was short line but it caught our attention as people were lined up to be seated. Promising. The place was very clean and ambiance was calming after our busy day of running errands. Our server greeted us quickly and cheerfully. Waters arrived pretty immediately followed by our drinks. So far so good. We ordered the sampler appetizer platter and pad Thai. Here’s where it starts to go downhill. We smelled a smell…not a scent or an aroma…getting stronger as our food was being brought to the table. We are staying positive. The first thing I asked when the plates were placed on the table was: Is the pad Thai overcooked? He chuckled as if it were true but kept it moving and prepared to take a bite. Meanwhile, I’m assessing the appetizers to see which one I am going to choose first and see that most of the items were left in the fryer longer than needed. They are deep brown. I ate the few pieces that were decent and went to dig into the pad Thai, not realizing that him wiping his mouth with a napkin was him actually spitting out a shrimp. Needless to say, I had the same reaction. The smell from earlier was an immense amount of fish oil in the pad Thai. The mushy looking noodles were, in fact, mushy but mushier than initially thought. The chicken was terribly bland and we wished we went to our...
Read moreFood was amazing. Started with the sampler and steamed dumplings. I really enjoyed the shrimp in a blanket(?) and the fried wontons. I ordered the lost in the garden with steak and my boyfriend had Uncle Bob's chicken. Both were excellent. We came in just before 9:30 and it took a few minutes to get acknowledged and seated but it wasn't more than ten minutes (honestly could have been just 5) and they were very busy- only two open tables. It took a little bit of time for them to take our order but again, they were busy. Our food came out VERY quick. The server didn't refill drinks but we didn't need refills really until we were leaving anyway so we weren't bothered by it.
I will say this though, and it'd be wise to heed the warning: they are pretty serious about not seating anyone too close to closing time which is 10:00. I'm pretty sure we were the last people to get a table and potential diners were steadily coming in only to be turned away. They weren't rude about it but they weren't allowing to go orders to be placed either. I'd like it if they were open later but it won't stop me from returning.
Great food. I've been to Thailand and most restaurants aren't even close to authentic. Siam did not disappoint and may be my new favorite Decatur eatery. Two appetizers, two entrees, and two beverages totaled $50 before tip and portions were...
