Whataburger is a new franchise in this area. I'd had a poor experience at a different establishment many years ago so I wasn't in a hurry to try this new local store. But wherever SWMBO drives I am carried along. "Easy rider along", that's me.
Since it's opening a few weeks ago the parking lot here had looked like a used car lot: always with many cars parked here. Today was no exception but in SWMBO's Quest For Ice (tm, by the way) added us to the drive-thru queue.
Urchin One and Urchin Two were hungry so we ordered drinks and fries all 'round. We'd noticed the second drive-thru lane was opened so we'd bypassed the cars waiting in the first lane. The outside lane does not have a window. Instead an employee was waiting to take our order and brought out our order. The personal service was a pleasant change from the grasping hand of most other drive-thru windows.
To my surprise the fries were good. They were cut smaller than other fries but they were crisp and actually tasted of potatoes instead of long-past-it's-time cooking oil. I'd gotten a, wait for it.... chocolate malt. Yup, they do have malts. ATTENTION: they do have malts. This is quite a novelty since my last supplier had dropped malts from their menu.
The malt and fries were excellent. The price was reasonable. The service was timely. After dropping off Urchin Two, we turned around and went back to the Whataburger and ordered fish dinners for all. Well, since Urchin One is a teenager, that order was for a burger.
We were surprised by the fish sandwiches. We got two large portions each of fish, each about the size of my hand. The outside of the sandwich was Texas toast. The fish was breaded and fried exactly right, neither too much nor too little. I thought the tartar sauce was evil and didn't like it at all. Perhaps it was just me. SWMBO didn't even try hers; rejected it on sight.
TL-DR: generous portions and cooked properly. That Whataburger from decades ago has been exonerated. We will go back. Well, as soon as SWMBO gets another quest for ice...
Read moreFirstly, I get being short. I do. However, when you place an order online ar 11:05 and the pickup time says 11:11-11:15 and you’re still sitting in the store at 11:30 with no one saying a word….thats frustrating. You can’t tell someone “Hold up” and run off and expect them to know their food was coming up. My husband was inside watching a fight between management and the crew occur, the cops got called for an incident, and he waited for our food and was never told anything. I was very frustrated that we couldn’t cancel our order on the app and I quickly realized we weren’t getting help from this store at all. I drove into the drive thru line while he was inside hoping I could have a better experience in getting a refund that way….nope. My husband walked out, I called the store and they answered very aggressively when I said I wanted a refund and that my husband had walked out. “Well we are a bit short and I told your husband to hold up and he just walked out of here” My husband did not just walk out after the hold up comment. He waited another 3-4 minutes and left because I called him. I explained that hold up doesn’t tell us anything and we’d already been waiting well past our pickup time “So you don’t want your food” “Well no not at this point. We’ve already been waiting and it’s not even done. Is it? ”-me “We were getting it ready and he walked out” “So is it done”-me “No. If he wants to get a refund then he’ll just have to call customer service. We can’t do it here” Again, I get being slow. I get waiting but there’s got to be a line at which you’re just being blatantly rude to your customers. There obviously some communication issues with management and the team at this establishment. This Whataburger is a poor representation of what Whataburger is. The ones out in Texas are worth waiting on your food for at least. This one has old food, rude and overworked staff members, and could really use some help. It’s been this way since it opened and I won’t be surprised...
Read moreI have passed this place multiple times going back and forth from home and work and decided to stop in one day in the morning after getting off of night shift and not wanting breakfast food so I figured these guys would be the place and man was I right.
Whataburger is pure awesome!, especially this one in Decatur, Alabama.
I have been there three separate times three separate early mornings and ordered everything from the chicken tender sandwich with extra hot sauce to the pico de gallo burger/sandwich, which was absolutely amazing And I recommend that to anyone.
I promise you if you want something delicious go here these guys are open 24/7 They are very courteous and polite and the thing that done it for me besides the food being delicious and the staff being a courteous was that they cleaned and powered up the milkshake machine at 6:00 a.m. in order to make me a peach cream milkshake which is absolutely amazing and I would have never ordered it but they suggested it to me because it was a new item and boy let me tell you that thing is fire! That milkshake is so good that I promise you if you like peaches and cream or any kind of creamsicle combo, then get that milkshake you will thank me later.
But the fact that they cleaned the entire milkshake machine in order to make me this one milkshake and took the time to do it without being a McDonald's and saying oh it's broken...
They actually DID THEIR JOB and did it correctly, I cannot tell you how far that goes with me in my book.
The quality of the food is delicious, the quantity of the food is more than what you pay for, and their fries are freaking delicious! Crispy, hot, and salty.
They actually will make you milkshakes, it doesn't take that long to get your food, and everyone is polite.
This is definitely one of the best fast food restaurants I have been to in a long long time and it has definitely restored some of my faith back into humanity of the fast food world.
Thank you Whataburger in Decatur,...
