We recently discovered Halal Pros and have fallen in love! First of all, the owner, Larry, is very very nice, he took time to explain halal to myself and my son. Here is a bit of information on halal, because I know there are probably a lot of people, like us, who had no previous knowledge of this.
Allah’s (God’s) name must be pronounced during slaughter.
The instrument must be very sharp to ensure humane slaughter. The animal must be slit at the throat, by hand, not any type of machine.
These steps must be accomplished by a Muslim or the People of the Book (Christian or Jew). (Many observant Muslims find kosher meat acceptable.)
The animal must have been fed a natural diet that did not contain animal by-products.
A halal animal must live a healthy life that’s free from suffering.
We were very impressed and excited to know that even though we differ in our religions a bit, we definitely appreciate halal. We found out that Halal Pros sources their meat from 2 smaller farms where the animals are allowed to be out living a healthy normal life. The cows are grass fed and all the animals are living in a natural and humane way. They are also not killed or butchered in front of any other animals and it is done by hand. This all may sound like a case of TMI (too much information, but I actually spared you all some details), Commercially raised animals lives and how horrific their end of life experiences are, you should be glad to know that this restaurant doesn't carry any products that were subjected to that type of cruelty.
Now that you've been informed a bit on what halal is all about, let me tell you that everything we have eaten has been amazing! The flavors are very authentic, and everything is made in house by the owners. The pitas come from a bakery in Chicago, but all of the meats and sauces are all seasoned and prepared in house and the time and care put into the food is clear by the flavors and quality! So far we have had the chicken and the beef shawarma, the kufta sandwich, the falafel, and the gyro. If I had to pick my favorite out of those I'd say the gyro, IT WAS HUGE! Stacked so high with such flavorful gyro meat. It was the best gyro I've ever had and I've had quite a few. Close second was the kufta, which is an elongated ground meat patty made with ground lamb and many delicious spices. Everything at Halal Pros tastes fresh and delicious. If you're not into middle eastern food they do have some classic American foods like chicken wings, Italian beefs, chicken tenders etc. They're not the easiest place to find just due to being at the end of the strip they're in. They are the last unit in the little strip across from the junction just down from Rocky's Smokeshop. They offer student and senior discounts and the prices are great for the quality of food...
Read moreI feel bad about not giving 5 stars, but i have to be honest, I eat alot of middle eastern food, my boss is lebanese, so i know a good garlic, i was having my mouth water getting home, as I took a carry out. I got there kinda late and didnt really feel welcome, but thats ok, im just being honest the lady was real nice, you could tell she was excited and prided her business. I am a director of a company so i understand good zeal for your product or service. I was going to base this all on the meal..I had the beef shwarma entree.
the taste and flavor of the beef was very good, the salad small in its place in the box given, and there was rice... the rice was excellent .. less i say near perfect... so why the 4 stars ? there is no way this can be called garlic sauce,, it was so bland , and quite frankly i did drizzle it all on my beef and I wasnt pleased , but again i am being honest, i love trying new places. I think this will be a welcome place in dekalb. I do think this place is better than Jamrah , so with that said please dont hate me as I see 5 stars across the board.. I simply didnt have that...
Read moreOk, I never do reviews but you need to go here!!! I just came in to get a chicken sandwich meal, since I wanted to start with something a little more comfortable to get a feel for the place, and oh my God!! Chicken and fries were piping hot, perfect balance of condiments and veggies on the sandwich with good spices, toasty bun, and while the fries weren't really salted, they had a unique blend of spices that works well as a pallet starter and cleanser! It's not strong, and it's super easy on the throat and stomach while your eating! It's a unique take on fries!
Super friendly and helpful staff with good energy! Super approachable, and super generous with what you get! When I was greeted, the menu was explained to me and she offered to give recommendations if I ended up struggling to pick! I paid around 11 dollars for this meal and honestly, worth the price 100% There's passion in the food and it shows! Defo coming back here in the future for lunch!
Very relaxed, good food, and great...
