El Cantarito Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Delaware

Parking is at a premium here. I parked in one of the 5 spaces in the back of the restaurant.

This is a small restaurant right off 13 in New Castle. I missed it the first time by and had to circle back.

This place seems like it's pretty new. The restaurant is clean with bright fresh colors, which made a good impression right away. Service was as good as it gets, anything I needed I got in a timely manner, and everyone was polite. Let's get this party started!!!

I ordered a water to drink. I didn't see any alcohol option, but they may let you BYOB. I'm not sure. They did have a selection of agua frescas and sodas.

Chips & Salsa!!! Chips...made in house, warm, crispy perfection. These are always the chips I prefer when I go to any restaurant. Salsas...the green had a nice creamy consistency and then it slapped me in the face with some heat. Not enough heat to wreck your palate...just enough to get you there. The red had more of a smokey flavor to it with another creep up punch. I also enjoyed this one. The pico was fresh, one of the best mixes I've had. I tried to stop eating the chips & pico, it was a struggle.

I ordered Torta Milanesa de Pollo... This sandwich was perfect!!! The chicken was thin, breaded with amazing flavors, and had the perfect crisp to it. The mayo, lettuce, avocado, pickled jalapeno, fresh cheese, and tomatoes married it all together in perfect harmony. The bread was outstanding with a bit of crunch on the inside and out. Writing this is making me want another!

I ordered Tacos choosing pastor, chorizo, barbacoa, and carnitas. Pastor...good char, a little too salty for me. I feel it needed the pineapple to balance the salt. The tortillas though...omg they were out of this world hand made tortillas! Chorizo... good char, excellent flavor. Exactly the way I like my chorizo to taste. Sounds weird. Barbacoa...only available on the weekend. The meat just melts in your mouth, no salsa needed, but with the green salsa, this was a flavor explosion. Carnitas...only available on the weekend. Forget about it! Juicy, amazing mix of meats that make you wanna dance. Did I mention how good these tortillas were???

The food was subpar even tho it wasnt what i ordered. I understand it's a Mexican restaurant but they barely speak or understand English so it was a little difficult. I wasn't acknowledged when I walked up to the counter. After 2 min of 3 people in the back just staring at me i grabbed a menu from behind the register and sat down. Then one of the workers came over asked if I was ready I said no then he came back two seconds late trying to write down my order. I said please give me a minute I'm looking he says ok then tries to read the menu to me but he is reading in Spanish. Every question I asked the answer was always yes which told me he didn't understand English. I wanted hard taco shells he said yes gave me soft. I asked for beef tacos he said yes gave me pork I asked for sour cream he says yes gave me hot sauce. I asked if silverware was in the bag he said yes, there were none. I won't be back. It's not even the fact that they don't speak English all around I just had bad vibes. I almost walked out but I was super hungry and headed to an event that I didn't want to be late for and unfortunately they didn't offer food. I definitely won't be back nor do I...

As I walked in I was greated by kind staff, that not only made me feel welcomed but also made me feel comfortable. I asked for a chorizo burrito which by far has been one of the best burritos my taste buds have ever tasted. Not only did I get a great service but I also got a great dinner. I hardly like spending money at Mexican restaurants because being Mexican I eat at home. But, I have found a Mexican restaurant that I will not think twice to eat.

Este restaurante me encanto, fue una experiencia increíble. Fui recibida con amabilidad. Me hicieron sentir bien recibida y bienvenida.
