Parking was easy, strip mall, plenty of parking. This is a decent size place, maybe 13 tables or so, and a small bar area for food. I didn't see any beer or anything on the menu. The place is no frills, and was pretty busy through out our stay. Service was good, anything we needed, we got in a reasonable time. I did eventually have to figure out where to pay and just go make it happen.
I ordered a pineapple agua fresca. It tasted delicious, not too sweet, but a little on the warm side for me. This was my #1 highlight from this trip.
Chips & Guac!!!!!!! Chips...just basic ok chips. Nothing special here. Guac...fresh, could use a bit more cilantro. I added some from the taco tray that the waitress brought out. I needed to add a bit of salt for my taste, which helped tremendously. Red sauce...solid flavors in there with some fire behind it. I'm guessing habanero. Green sauce..tomatillo based with some jalapeno up in there. Still heat, just a little less fire.
I ordered the verde enchiladas.
They cut with the plastic fork ok, but I'd much rather real silverware for dining in. The chicken was moist, melt in your mouth, with the verde sauce way too tangy, and the spice in the chicken was too hot. It was like the habanero sauce was what it was marinaded in. It wasn't enjoyable at all. It's a shame, because the chicken itself was cooked perfectly.
I ordered tacos choosing pastor, chorizo, and the mixed meat. Pastor...excellent flavors, right there with some of the best. The hand made tortillas were excellent. Chorizo...good char, decent flavor, but it was dry even with the salsa. Nothing could seen to hydrate this back to life. Mixed meat...overly crunchy dry meat taco is all I gotta say. Like the scraps were tossed in there from the burnt meats. They were out of steak and tongue so I tried the meat surprise. I wasn't impressed or surprised...
I've heard lots of good things, I saw very little to believe it. Just like anyplace, try it for yourself. I won't be in there with...
Read moreOn my last three trips at Taqueria Rojas, I had the three Quesadillas Dorados with the Tinga (spicy chicken), al pastor (pork) and chorizo. The raw onion/cilantro relish, as well as the pickled onion and pepper (hot) were delicious and added freshness and a tantalizing heat that I was compelled to continue eating! I also had a couple tacos de lengua (tongue), which were so very tasty. The solid foundation and crown are the freshly made tortillas. They took it to a whole other level.
On a separate note, everything looked so clean, and the oil used for frying was fresh and at the proper temperature. Everything arrived hot and fresh in fairly short order. Sodas and homemade Agua frescas are available, but if you require a sugar-free soda, you should bring your own. All beverages other than ice water are full sugar.
This place has made its way into my regular restaurant rotation, as well as my heart. It's visually charming and features music from Mexico...figurines of Jesus Christ and the Virgen de Guadalupe look down in blessing amidst fresh flowers on their altar/ledge by the...
Read moreI was in before a crowd came. Seems like if you're seated to eat there, you have to wait a long time for someone to give you menus and take your order. Walk up got served right away! The same people behind the counter were also the ones managing tables. Menu pricing was confusing. I ordered guacamole and rice and was priced at $2 as a side. When I paid, the guacamole was $7. Also the guacamole w chips came right away but 20min or more passed before my tacos were served. By the time my actual food came, I had filled up on chips and guacamole! I will not be eating there again unless I have to with...
