The Backstretch — Restaurant in Delaware

We were visiting for Ironman 70.3 2021. The first evening we walked around and finally chose Backstretch for dinner.

The staff was amazing and friendly. BONUS, this is a BAR and they had a KID MENU! I was so impressed.

We started with Hushpuppies. We have a hard time resisting puppies. These little balls of sweet cornbread balls melted in our mouths, they came with a honey sriracha dipping sauce that was so tasty my 3 year old started eating it right out of the cup!!!

The kids shared a Mac and Dog. This is supposed to be Mac and cheese with cut up hotdog. We originally inquired if they could eliminate the hotdog, they offered instead to put it on the side. We accepted that offer. Now, I am a Chicago gal and feel that Chicago dogs are bar none. But, this hot dog link was amazing. The Mac and Cheese was was NOT your ordinary kraft dinner. This was a gourmet culinary delight of ooey gooey cheesiness… and, I kept thinking, this is a KIDS DISH! Above that, the dish was so huge, I was able to reheat for lunch the next day.

I had a blackberry shandy that was amazing! Along with a Blackberry Bacon melt (A amazing gourmet grilled cheese) on ciabatta bread. I also substituted the chips for fries… As I mentioned I have a very selective eater and I figured if he did not touch the kids dish, I could at least fill his belly with some fries (he does have nutrition shakes to help supplement his selective food choices).

My husband had Cashew Vegetable Wrap. He loved that there was a Vegan option for himself. He did order a side salad for his side. The only drawback for him, Backstretch puts bacon in their salads, since he is not a meat eater and we have never encountered bacon in the salad he was a little disappointed. Although, I did look and the menu does clearly state bacon in the salad, so no stars are lost :) * I ended up giving him my fries and had his salad (I am a meat eater). This was one of the best side salads ever had… and I kept thinking, this is a small college town bar! But, it was one of the most amazing meals I have ever had!

Above that, the 2 adult meals came with a deviled egg topped with bacon! I have never had my meal anywhere accompanied by a deviled egg. I love deviled eggs and these proved to be as delicious as the rest of the food served to us!

Thanks to the staff for tolerating when my kids started melting down while waiting for our food. It was a very long day with an 8 hour drive and a long walk before we made our way to you. Your food was a true culinary experience and we will be sure to return if we are ever in...

my family tried this place for the first time last night and it’s safe to say we won’t return, our experience was bad from the moment we sat down at our table and began to order, our drinks were awful, out of flavor, our server took 20 minutes to bring us new ones and even longer to bring the “adult beverages”. we got some of our food eventually and it was just awful, the wings tasted the way you would imagine a nail salon smelling, the macaroni and cheese we ordered was gritty and had no flavor, the only thing i would recommend getting from there would be the salad because it was the only edible thing, we politely told our server we weren’t happy would like to pay for the food we ordered but the manager didn’t seem to appreciate our “complaints” and came to our table shouting at us that we need to pay for all of it (even the stuff we still hadn’t received) and when we declined she screamed at us to get out, so we did. 0/10 experience i...

There are some things that drive me crazy aboutbackstrech. Definitely NOT a bar for one! I don't know what they are. But backstretch is not a bar. Closed at 7:30 P ON NEW YEARS. I don't know I guess college students in the area make sure to get to bed by 8PM. Next it can be dead quiet in here! I've been to libraries with more activity buzz! The music is pay per play. That's nice and all but 90% of the time there is no music. I wish they would charge $0.09 more per item and pay for commercial music like Sirius commercial etc. Get some atmosphere going. Then the seating. The bar does not allow you to scoot in at all. It is quite uncomfortable to hang out at and especially uncomfortable to eat at.
