We had family over from out-of-town and wanted to have an enjoyable dining experience on a Saturday evening that turned out to be outright unpleasant. When we arrived at the place, it wasn’t that busy with about half of the tables empty. Our server, Isaiah, while we were just perusing through the menu, rushed us for dinner entree orders … we were only looking at drinks and starters. It appeared that he was a little irritated when we took a little time to order (including the main dinner) and kind of yanked the menus from us. And then the waiting began … we saw from our table the bartender had prepared our drinks but Isaiah was just standing and chitchatting with other servers. After more than 20 minutes, he brought the drinks over, that’s when I asked him about the appetizers and he just replied that it’s all prepared fresh in the kitchen - not the answer I was looking for. After waiting for another 30 minutes or so, one of the kitchen staff came out with our main dinner orders with the appetizers nowhere in sight. Obviously, anyone who dines at a restaurant knows that starters/appetizers are served with the drinks before dinner UNLESS the guest asks otherwise. So, we told the kitchen staff that appetizers haven’t arrived yet, and all this time our server never stopped by. Long story short, the manager came by and apologized for the mixup and blaming it on the kitchen staff and assured us he would make things right. He also promised that the appetizers would be ‘free’ because of mixup. We wanted to have a good experience with our guests from out-of-town and wanted to put this behind us. So, we proceeded with the rest of the evening. When Isaiah finally came back much later to fill our water, we wanted to put him at ease and didn’t want him to also feel uncomfortable serving our table. But unfortunately, our ordeal didn’t end there … when I got the check, I found it to be confusing and misleading. Isaiah mentioned to me while handing me the check that discount has been provided but while going through the lines (which I never do) it didn’t add up. Every dinner entree item was ordered twice and then reversed and bundled in one line called “Discount”, which was basically reversing out the double orders. There was no trace of the actual discount offered as assured by the manager. Also, the pre-calculated tip amount was erroneous … seemed like it was calculated on the bloated total and not the actual total. And finally, one of the items was priced more than 100% higher than the price on the menu … $38 versus $15 for a bowl of lobster bisque soup! At this point, we were all very tired and didn’t want to ruin the rest of our evening and chose just to leave with a modest tip for the server. I think the Manager should have followed through till the end and ensured the bill was accurate. It would also help if he didn't peddle Isaiah as one of his best servers, which he definitely was not. We also felt hurt and left out when we saw that our server was very attentive to the other tables he attended while he completely ignored us. I don’t think this is the type of experience anyone wants to go through when one is paying more than $50 per dinner per person (excluding drinks). I sincerely hope that the restaurant management reads my review and takes measures not to repeat the same unpleasant experience to...
Read moreI recently had the most extraordinary experience at 50 Ocean at Boston's On the Beach, and I am compelled to share my gratitude through this glowing review. The level of service and genuine kindness exhibited by the staff, especially the manager, during a pivotal moment in my Brother In Law's life was nothing short of exceptional.
My brother-in-law was planning to propose to his girlfriend, and despite meticulous preparations, an unexpected downpour and relentless wind threatened to derail the outdoor proposal. In a moment of inspiration, I recalled a previous visit to 50 Ocean, where I remembered a private room being available. Without hesitation, I called the restaurant, and the manager's response is a testament to the incredible hospitality that makes me proud to call Palm Beach County home.
Upon explaining our predicament, the manager not only graciously offered the private room but also encouraged us to use the decorations we had prepared for the outdoor proposal. The efficiency with which the team at 50 Ocean responded was remarkable; within 15 minutes of our phone call, we were on-site, setting up for the momentous occasion.
The staff went above and beyond, embodying true teamwork and friendliness. They even lent a helping hand in properly hanging the "Will You Marry Me" sign. The proposal went off without a hitch, and to our delight, the restaurant surprised the newly engaged couple with a glass of champagne to celebrate.
I cannot express enough gratitude to the manager and the entire team at 50 Ocean for their unparalleled support and generosity. Their quick thinking, flexibility, and warm-hearted assistance turned what could have been a stressful situation into a beautiful and memorable experience.
This exceptional level of service has not only left a lasting impression on me but has also solidified 50 Ocean at Boston's On the Beach as a go-to destination for special moments and celebrations. I look forward to frequenting this establishment in the future and recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone seeking not just a meal, but an experience marked by kindness, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to creating lasting memories.
Thank you, 50 Ocean, for being the shining example of what makes Palm Beach County an extraordinary place to...
Read moreIf you’re thinking about hosting a private event here, don’t. I hosted my rehearsal dinner for my wedding here with a party of 55 people. I had spoken with Ryan, the events coordinator via email starting about a year before my event. He told me to rent out the space it would be a 5K minimum which we were able to achieve with 55 people and an open bar. We discussed having the space from 4-8PM. I have email receipts of all of this. I arrive to the restaurant the morning of the event to set up place cards and touch base with him. He didn’t remember that I had the entire space and was only going to give us a section of the place. I wouldn’t have booked if it was a portion of the restaurant. I reread our emails to him and he apologized and said he mixed it up. If I had not shown up that morning, they would’ve opened the restaurant to the public which we didn’t pay for. I understand mix ups happen and it’s a busy time of year - He ended up being very accommodating and was easy to work with. My issue with my event is with the manager Glenn. Ryan and I had discussed having the space from 4-8PM (this is all through email and phone confirmation). At about 7:15 Glenn starts seating the public at the bar. I had politely told Glenn that we had the space until 8 and was wondering what the mix up was, he then blows up on me telling me that “Per my contract, I in fact did not have the space until 8 and that if I wanted to rent out the entire restaurant it would have cost me $50K.” I told him I never signed a contact, this was all agreed upon with the events coordinator (Ryan) and I have email receipts. He then said “well do you want me to move the customers?” Making me feel like I’m doing something wrong for asking about having our space for the time we agreed on?! He ended up moving the customers and apologizing to me at the end of the night because my husbands dad asked him to. As a bride, looking to enjoy a nice dinner with my friends and family, he really soured my night just from his temper and poor response to a simple question. I regret ever asking about people sitting at the bar during our event time because I wouldn’t have asked if I had known that was the reaction I would’ve gotten. I really hope that Glenn finds some peace, hopefully it was just a bad...
