Have visited Caffe Luna Rose a number of times and been very pleased. Saturday night's visit has moved us to the point that we will not return.
With an 8:00 reservation, we were not seated until 8:40. Our server came to our table in roughly 5 minutes... she asked what type of water we would like - not 'hello or welcome or how are you.... She made a number of visits to the other tables around us and came back to us literally 15 minutes later - stood there, said nothing, until we asked if we should place our order - she said yes (she did not tell us about the specials or ask if we had any questions - just said yes). One in our party asked to substitute pasta for the potatoes - she said yes but there would be a $12 up charge! Our expression showed our surprise - we said, '$12 for the pasta'? She said "yes, the chef makes it here... we don't run down to Publics Supermarket and buy a pound - do you still want it?" we said yes. (Thought her comment was completely uncalled and bordering on rude.)
Waiting for our order, one of our party went to the rest room. and on the way asked the host to look at a menu, (curious to see if the menu mentioned an up charge). Our waitress saw this and asked if there was an issue? We answered we were just surprised at a $12 charge - she said thats what it was. The waitress then came to our table and asked if we still wanted the pasta with the charge - yes we did.
The meals finally came roughly 20 minutes later (table next to us was waiting the same timeframe) and there was no pasta!! (We actually laughed!) We called over the waitress and said there was no pasta. She said again, 'do you still want it?' Yes we said again.
After 5 minutes, no pasta had arrived, I called waitress over asking for the pasta, she said, 'yes it's coming right out'. We waited another few minutes... no pasta, so we called over the manger who was near by... explained. He apologized and said, do you still want it - no- not at this point, half the entree was gone. He again apologized, but nothing else. Not that we were looking for a free meal - but 'comping the two glasses of wine or something would maybe have showed that he cared.
Just as we were finishing our meal, the table behind us verbally called over the waitress (same one we had). The gentleman loudly told her, she was the worst waitress he had ever had.... "you took real good care of the tables with your friends at them- and paid next to no attention to us- we are never coming back". He was correct, she took very good care of three tables, hugging and kissing the guests at those tables goodbye. We paid the bill and we did tip her

Told they would have one available in 20 minutes.since it was raining, the owner or Maitre de suggested we go shop in the “lovely” store next door. Wonder if he owns that too or has an interest. Anyhow, after 45 minutes and checking I. Several times, our table was finally ready. It took another 20 minutes to take our coffee order and 15 minutes after that to deliver it a or most of it. 35 minutes to get a cup of coffee is ridiculous. Our waitress appeared to be covering half of the restaurant - clearly they were short staffed. One of the drink orders - hot chocolate with baileys - didn’t come out. So when we finally attracted the attention of the waitress to let her know, she made it appear that the particular drink was never ordered. It clearly was - as when it was ordered, we specifically asked the waitress if they made hot chocolate with Baileys - and when she said they did, we said we’d take one. Anyhow - we again asked for the drink to be brought out. She left the table without comment and without apologizing for forgetting the drink. 10 minutes later, and still no drink, and our waitress nowhere in site, a gentleman approached the head of the table and said he was the manager. We expected it was to apologize for the lackluster service. Instead, he informed us that our waitress was the finest waitress they had, and that she was in the back crying. He then said - “I apologize, but I need to ask you to leave”. We were shocked - beyond belief. It’s one thing to support your employees - and the customer is not always right - but in this case, the waitress clearly made an error by forgetting a drink and whether it was due to her poor work or the restaurant being short staffed - we did nothing wrong and were subjected to horrendous service. A quality and well run establishment would simply own up to it and apologize and make it right. This place unfortunately chose the opposite - to lay blame where it didn’t belong and ignore their poor business practices. From the moment we attempted to make a reservation by phone to our arrival the next morning to the long delay in seating us to the failure to take our order on a timely basis to the final straw of not bringing out a drink and then asking us to leave - this restaurant does not deserve your business. We will be sure to let everyone we know in the area to stay away. By the way - this restaurant claims they have no negative reviews and never have any problems. They absolutely refuse to accept any accountability for any flaws or mistakes. Don’t take my word for it - read through the reviews. Sort by low scores and see how many people have taken issue with their service? Their management, their prices and their food. And each time, rather than apologizing, this restaurant cjooses To respond by claiming that their customer was wrong. Zero willingness to accept any accountability....
Read moreWent to the restaurant without reservations on a wed night (jazz festival night) when we got there , I was very surprised the hostess was very nice and said she had a table and pointed to it outside, I said that's fine.. after 10-15 minutes we say our waiter, he seemed a little put out and definitely not intune with servicing,, we put our drink order in and he had the bus boy serve the water, not sure of names but the bus man was very nice, 15mins later we were served our drinks along with bread for the table, orders placed and I was torn between Pollio parmesan and linguini vongoile, i asked the waiter personal thoughts and his recommendation was the chicken marsala... I didn't see it on the menu, he mentioned they will do the chicken. Instead of veal... my wife had the bologonise and my buddy had the pesto pasta.... about 40 mins later dinner arrives I'm disappointed because they sent a a veal masala out instead of chicken. Then we never had the waiter stop back until 45 mins later, he was very agitated about something as he was scurrying around. The food was ok, nothing to say Wow, I ate most of my wife's bolognese as in not a veal guy, she ate the veal aand for the most part it was tough ,,, I wont typically bitxh about food quality, I just wont go back, our dining experience really wasn't a good 1 maybe because we were tourist, we had a older gentleman next to us with a younger lady and she must of been a regular because they really catered to him. So after we got done it was 15 minutes b4 the bushman came by and collected the plates, he was very pleasant and apologized for theservice, I thought that was pretty noble of him,, my wife actually made it a point to tip him directly, he appreciated it... then we asked for our check and the main waiter returned to our table,,, as mentioned we didn't complain, simply paid the check, yes we did leave him a tip. I'm not looking for anything just want people to know ,dont expect to get In and out here, or be overly recognized by the waitstaff, beautiful atmosphere, clean and good food just lousy table service... the hostess was good I do wanna make that point and the busboy was very good... this is why we still left a tip because I do know the hostess gets a % and in sure the busboy aswell, we didn't wanna penalize them for our waiters actions...,
I'd like to commend the owners or managers especially Bonnie who reached out via email and apologized for what happened, it is nice to know the owners or management take the time to review the reviews and respond accordingly. Because of those actions we will try it again in the future.... thank you for trying to make it a better...
