A friend told us about Papa's Tapas. Looking at the menu online it looked like a place we would enjoy. Three of us went there on a Tuesday about 4:00 and only a few other people were there. My mother has a glass of the Classic Red Sangria which she highly recommends. We placed an order for Tortilla Espanola and Sweet Plantains as we looked at the menu. The rest of our order included; Mini Cubanitos, Papas Bravas, Garbanzos Sauteed, Grilled Steak Quesadilla, Chicken Vegetable Soup, Black Beans, Yellow Rice. We did leave with a box of leftovers. The food was amazing. My mother said it was the best Spanish food she ever had. We went back a couple of weeks later with a group of seven. This allowed us to order more items to share. Once again everything was delicious and the service was excellent. Being in a small strip of stores gives it a parking lot which is nice in this area. If this lot is full you can find free parking heading a block or two north. It’s also a .4 mile walk from the Old School Parking Garage which is free until 4PM. A friend told us about Papa's Tapas. Excellent Spanish food. Wonderful staff. I ordered the Mariscala (mixed seafood served in a salsa Verde) it was wonderful. All the seafood was cooked to perfection. The squid was tender, the rice perfect. It was so good, that I ordered dessert (something I almost never do). The flan was recommended by my waiter. This was the only miss for 2 reasons. The flavor of the flan was actually great, it seems to have subtle notes of coffee. The presentation, however, was where it fell short. The flan had a lot of liquid with it, and seemed to be falling apart a bit (almost seemed like it was frozen and thawed). The other mark against it is that it was accompanied by two large dollops of whipped topping (cool whip). This may be more personal preference, but I absolutely loathe non-dairy whipped topping. If the flan was presented nicer I would have given 5 stars. Definitely would eat here again though. To the owner/chef: make some fresh whipped cream and serve that instead of that whipped topping, it will make the dessert significantly better, and it's quick and easy to make. Thank you for the meal!

We had been in a cuisine-rut and decided to try this place out. We were so impressed!! The staff was so friendly and accommodating, and gave us an extra basket of bread without us asking because they noticed how much we loved it! The dipping sauce for the bread was a great first impression, it was smooth and light and had a lovely herbaceous finish. The herbs and seasoning they use for their dishes here are wonderful. We started off with the mejillones and the spinach croquette. The mejillones were A+, the pisto sauce was excellent. The spinach croquette was lovely, it didn’t even need the sauce it came with, the croquette shines by itself. We also got the Brussels sprouts and Sweet Angels (plantains wrapped in bacon with a butter brandy drizzle) which was fine if you like plantains but I found them a tad forgettable. Overall one of the better restaurants I’ve been to in a while and will definitely be back :)

Not only is the food subpar and the service slow but the “manager” (the owners kid) is hand down the smuggest rudest human I have ever encountered. It took 25 minutes for them to find wine glasses to serve our drinks, an hour for our bland shrimp appetizer and calamari app to come out and when we were told it would be an additional 45 minutes for the paella we asked to cancel. The steak was good but took an hour and 15 minutes. The manager said the food is cooked fresh as if that’s a novelty in restaurants and would discount the bill for the exceptionally long wait. The bill came and he took off the paella which we canceled and never got. We never asked for a discount but when you offer and acknowledge the disappointing meal I would expect a manager follow through and make it right. When we asked to speak to him after we payed the bill our waiter told us he refused to come over and to just pay and leave. When he eventually did come over he acted as if he did us a favor by taking off the item we never received. I understand the quaintness of a small family run business but hire a manger with some social decorum who understands business. He seemed extremely immature and happy to hear we would tell our friends about this disaster of a meal. I could almost look past the food but the management will be the reason we never return.

Update: The response from the restaurant is a joke and a pathetic attempt to deflect. I’m assuming the manager who laughed at our complaint is the same person responding. The bottom line is besides the steak the food was average and bland. The restaurant didn’t have clean glasses for 25 minutes and we were sat at 7:45 ordered right away and at 8:45 we were told our appetizers would be another 20-30 minutes and an additional 45 minutes for Paella. If we were told it would be a 60- 90 minute wait we wouldn’t have ordered it. At that point we canceled the paella and the waiter felt horrible for the wait. He put a rush order of chicken tenders in for our starving kids and was so apologetic. Then he came back and told us we had to pay for half of the paella we canceled because we never received it or the restaurant would make him pay for it because we canceled it. That was the only reason we called the manager over initially. The idea of the waiter needing to pay for the dish we never received by the manager seemed outrageous so we wanted to make sure that didn’t happen. After having the pleasure of meeting the manager it’s not surprising they would impose such disgusting requests of their wait staff.

With so many incredible options for dining in delray do yourself a favor and go...

They took out a piece of shoe leather and claimed it was pork belly. They were shocked. I sent it back, but that's just the beginning. We were sitting at a table by the window. And the metallic tops from the tables outside were reflecting with sunlight as the Sun set right into the eyes of our party of 5 people when we ask them, could they put? Covers on top of the tables all of a sudden. It looked like a bunch of gears and the headlights. How could we ask them to do that? I've, we even asked them to move the tables that were reflecting with setting the sunlight into her eyes, let alone common sense would say they should have shades on the window. They did nothing to accommodate our comfort other than give us reasons why they couldn't do this and couldn't do that. And yet they expected to be chipped. I couldn't wait to get the hell out of there. It was some of the worst service. By the way, I kept asking them when I first arrived if they could just bring a salt shaker that never happened. I asked them. Do they have butter to go with the bread? They said no. They seem to have a way of saying no, they can't do this. They can't do that. Yes, they want a tip. You'd have to be out of your mind to go there. I'll never go there again and I hope this review has an impact and people read it. I eat out 3 to 4 times a week. And I may post once or twice a week. But this time I feel obligated to share. My comment with fellow travelers go to any other restaurant in West Palm Beach. Go to 5 guys go to McDonald's. Don't waste your time go somewhere. Go to Publix and buy yourself a burrito and heat in a microwave. And that way, at least you know what you're getting and the service will...
