I got an order to go today and the person behind the counter who I assume is the owner provided exceptional customer service.
We had a nice talk about their homemade style cannolis which the cream and shells are made just up the road. The cannolis were exceptional.
The food that I had to go was also delicious.
The chicken parm was fantastic and they allowed me to swap the pasta without any issue to penne. The penne pasta was a home made style pasta not the typical out of the box. I also appreciated the fresh mozzarella that they used vs pizza cheese that their competitors use.
The lasagna was homemade family style recipe and extremely tasty. Both dishes were plentiful and enough for a second night.
The Caesar salad was the only item in my opinion that was lacking the quality because their other food items were so great. I would have liked to have seen large homemade well seasoned garlicky croutons and fresh off the block cuts of parmesan cheese or baked parmesan crips but what they made was certainly was acceptable.
I will definitely be return to try more of their menu. The pizzas that were being cooked in their bakers pride oven (which is the oven that all good pizza makers use if they do not use coals/brick oven style) looked delicious. I also saw what I believe was a meatball with ricotta cheese appetizer that also looked excellent.
They had suggested 25 minute wait when I placed the order to go on the phone. It was great to see it ready in just 18-20 minutes. So many restaurants run late on pickup orders.
Again I thank the gentleman for the great conversation and the...
Read moreSo I'm from out of town and was told that this place has great salads... they have great salads but their staff is unbelievably rude. It happens to be the St Patrick's day parade so I understand that it's going to be busy and crowded... I got to Sazio at 1159am and before I can even say hi to the hostess I was firmly told We Are NOT open yet we open at 12... ok... didn't know but check the tone. Then after 30 seconds when they did open the hostess started to list the things as I customer I will not be able to do such as "you cannot get a table for slices you have to get it from the window to take" ok... I said "I'm from out of town I've never been here I plan to get a salad." Hostess said "I'm just telling you, how many are in your party." I said "just me" so then she began to again tell me what I as a customer can't do... "you can't sits at these tables and all of those cause I can fit more people you can ONLY sit at these." So I said politely "I can see you don't want my business I will go elsewhere" she said ok... next... so I went across the street to Rocco Tacos where they where slammed with clients but they were nice asked me what table I liked sat me there and u spent 40 bucks on lunch for myself and tipped 100% to the server who was supper busy but was supper nice and attentive.... I come to Del Ray a lot for business so I will NEVER give my business to Sazio and I will inform my hotel to not recommended this place to other guests but to send them...
Read moreSazio e felice is how we left this lively and modern cantina. Definitely outdoor dining should be the choice. Indoor is nice, where you can see some nice art they are displaying for sale but the eco is too loud and music resound way too much on your ears. Though music was quite cool. Good Rock. Pizza, is definitely their signature plate. As such bread is also awesome. My most valuable indicator. The pizza sauce could be slightly less sweet. I recommend to drizzle olive oil to that beautiful crust, maybe to the whole pizza... Burrada had a nice solid outer curd, but lost companion when the soft stringy curd and cream supposed to be pouched in , was too hard to differentiate when the mozzarella stops and starts the cream. Calamari were very good, fresh from the day for sure. I rather have it with marinara so to cut the grease of the fritura, instead of mayonnaise base sauce. The lemon we asked helped though. The Mediterranean salad was a waste of money, belly room and time to wait. Just lettuce and olives. The Zappa di mussels, was wonderful. Quite buttery for anyone with high colesterol but worth it. Dessert would be next time, sorry I cannot suggest. Overall is a very nice cantina where you can eat a very good meal for a reasonable price while you watch all the crazy actions parade in...
