I usually am pretty conservative with reviews, especially of restaurants, but this is one of the most well deserved 5 stars I've given in a while. Came here for the first time for a birthday celebration. I've heard of this place and heard some rumors that it's really good, and also some that it's really bad. But I came in with an open mind. First off, the service was EXCELLENT. Our waitress (wish I had gotten her name) was wonderful and catered to our requests/alterations to our food perfectly. The wait for the food was a bit long, maybe 20-25 minutes, but we also were there on a Friday night, so I can excuse that. Plus, in my opinion, if the food is amazing, then the wait is almost always worth it. And it certainly was! Between our party of 5, we ordered a few pizzas and some salads. The salads were great, but the real star was the pizza. I'm VERY picky with pizza, and I almost always order it with very light cheese, and a very well done cook. I find often that the way the pizza comes out with these instructions in mind can show how much the chefs care about reading the tickets/catering to the customer's wants. They did AMAZING. This was one of the best pizzas I have had in a LONG time, and I would almost go as far as to say that it is probably one of the best pizzas in a sit-down restaurant in Lansing. I will say though, if you don't like TONS of cheese on your pizza, order light cheese anyway. They use a TON of cheese on the normal pizzas, which is great if you like cheese, but if you don't like a ton of cheese, order light cheese. The salads were better than I was expecting, not the best salad I've ever had but I certainly would order it again. I also saw some of the other dishes that went to other tables and they also looked wonderful. My other big praise is the prices, in this day and age, finding fairly priced restaurants is hard, but they do it great. Our party of 5 walked out with a bill under $50. This is very cool to see for budget-minded folks. I can't remember the last time I ate at a place that was this cheap and was this good. I can tell you that we will definitely be back, we live in Bath so it's not super close to us but it was WELL worth the 20 minute drive. I can't say enough good about this place. If you've never been here and you're considering it, just do it. You...
Read moreStopped in for a late lunch after getting off the road, about 2pm. I’d eaten here before and it was good. The waitress, Nancy, “seated” us, meaning she took two menus and tossed them on the tables as she walked past, leaving us to wonder if that was our table. We sat, and she brought water, which we normally have at any meal. Nancy brought our waters and a basket of bread. My glass (plastic) was cracked and leaking. I sampled a piece of the bread, which is sliced bread, and rock hard. It took effort even to break a piece. I brought the cracked glass to Nancy’s attention, she apologized and brought me another cup. We ordered the daily special, hot open-faced turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes, gravy, and corn. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. When I tasted my plate, it was cold. Barely above room temperature. Both plates were. Instead of potatoes, my girlfriend got Mac and cheese, which came out after we’d been served our entrees. It honestly looked like they’d used Alfredo with elbow macaroni. Not very appetizing in appearance, but it was warmer than anything else on the table. When Nancy came back, I told her about the unsatisfactory food temp, and she said if I’d have mentioned it earlier, they’d have fixed it, but she’d talk to the manager. I also showed her the “bread” and how hard it was. She said it was a tradition, and people would get upset if she didn’t bring it out. Now, as I stated earlier, I’d eaten here before, and the bread was nowhere near the cement like consistency that time. When Nancy went to speak to the manager, who was behind the bar, we heard “I do t think so” and take a dollar off. I asked Nancy about this comment, and she said the manager was working on a computer problem, and that wasn’t meant towards us. I appreciate her loyalty, but not a blatant lie. It would have been nice to speak to the manager, but at that point, her lack of interest in customer satisfaction was evident and I did not want to waste my time trying to enlighten her. If we both hadn’t been absolutely starving, I wouldn’t have eaten as much as I did, which was maybe half. Same for my girlfriend. She also felt sick to her stomach afterwards. We paid our bill and left. Will not...
Read moreI’m sorry, but this place is just not good at all. And that’s being nice. If it was possible to give it a zero star I would. I went here for the second time with my family. The first time I went I ordered a cheeseburger and not only was the burger not cooked well, but they used shredded cheese that wasn’t even melted. I went tonight again with my family and gave it a second chance. I ordered pasta since it’s an Italian restaurant, so you would figure it would be somewhat decent, but the sauce was very oily and unappealing. My stomach is queasy at the moment and won’t be surprised if I’m sick the next couple days because of food poisoning! The only nice thing I have to say is their waitresses were nice and their beer at least wasn’t contaminated. Maybe this restaurant was decent when it opened in 1951. But this is one of the worst restaurants I’ve ever been to. If not th worst....
