I typically only leave restaurant reviews if my experience was either exceedingly favorable or negative, as mediocrity is something you should be able to expect from any venue and not particularly helpful feedback. This one is no exception. I Love Sushi is a small “hole in the wall” Japanese/Asian fare restaurant, focusing on sushi. The exterior is very unassuming and the interior while cozy and charming, isn’t much more impressive. The winning ambiance however is not in the design or decor, but in the untypical attention to customer service. Each customer receives a friendly greeting from the staff and the owner, as well as a warm farewell when they leave. Each employee will try to accommodate to the best of their ability and often remember their repeat customers. In terms of their menu you won’t find anything overly “unique”, aside from a small array of specialty rolls some of which bear similarity to more common staples. That being said, the portions are generous and the quality of the food you receive is typically well above average. I always try to leave a balanced review of places and in kind am largely dismissive of purely negative or positive reviews, as they almost always aren’t accurate. This is why I saved my person impression with this restaurant for the end as it may be a bit biased. I quite honestly can’t say enough good things about I Love Sushi. My first experience there was roughly 7 or 8 years ago and have regularly returned ever since. The food is delicious and the staff are amazing. One visit fell on an employees birthday, and the proprietor brought a piece of the birthday cake out to my table to share with me at no charge. There were a couple of times I was displeased with the quality of the chicken I received, but those are greatly outweighed by the mouthwatering nabyaki udon they serve. The bluefin tuna nigiri is thus far the best I’ve had. The hours during weekdays close between lunch and dinner from 2pm to 5pm and they do not seat incoming customers within 30 minutes of any closing point, so bear that in mind if you plan to make a trip there. They also have exterior seating if you’re an outdoor person or just want a more open environment to enjoy your food. I highly recommended giving this...
Read moreI am extremely confused about the reviews on this place. I don’t feel like I’m super bougie about food, but this sushi was just not good. We were in Denton for the day and decided to try it out based on reviews. First glance isn’t super reassuring the restaurant itself is really old and gives a fast food vibe. Either way we decided to give it a chance anyway. The service was amazing, we were given a free miso soup. It was ok. Then we ordered the gyoza. Normally gyoza is pan fried and there was no description to state otherwise, yet when we got it , it was deep fried. Not a huge deal, it didn’t taste awful but it was very greasy and I probably wouldn’t have ordered it if I had known. It almost had a panko batter around it. Secondly most of the rolls are fried, and I ordered the sunrise roll and it literally had nothing in the inside except a small piece of tempura shrimp and crab meat on top. The sauce they put on top was almost like a sweet and sour? Nothing like the picture- and the roll itself was tasteless and underwhelming. My husband ordered the Hiroshima roll based on reviews and it was deep fried, but it was so large and bulky it was hard to eat and the flavors just weren’t there. Neither of us ate more than a couple pieces of our roll. I hate writing bad reviews but the excitement we had for this place based on the reviews vs the experience we actually had just really bummed us out. Sushi was a treat for us and maybe I can spare someone else the same experience by being honest. The staff was very nice and welcoming but the sushi...
Read moreI waited a week to see if our experience was really that unpleasant and still bothering us. It is. On Valentines Day my husband and I arrived around 850, they close @930. I didn’t notice but my husband said the waitress annoyingly looked up at the clock like we were a bothering we came in.. We both work late full time and wanted a nice dinner. I would have preferred being told they don’t seat after a certain time. My husband and I have always worked in restaurants and have always greeted and taken tables when close to closing. Food is AMAZING!! 9:29pm and I was about to let our waitress know please give us the check we won’t be ordering anything else we know they are closing up. Before I could get it out she came over and said “So we do close at 9:30” looked down at our food we were eating and said “I’ll go ahead and grab you Togo boxes” WOW.
Felt like we were getting kicked out. So incredibly unprofessional and unwelcoming. I had 1/2 a beer, my husband a full one and maybe 10 pieces of sushi left. I’m not taking sushi Togo we live 30 minutes away. I lost my appetite, they shut off everything and started their closing duties which I get. But the awkward silence and stares were another thing. We chose to give you our business, if we were a burden or a bother DONT SEAT AFTER A CERTAIN TIME AND POST IT SO PATRONS ARE AWARE.
Disappointed in our servers attitude. Especially with what looked to be the owner or manager sitting right there.
Turned a delicious meal into a guarantee we will never return.
Which again sucks because the...
