Two Charlies — Restaurant in Denton

Place has gone down! Recent visit shows Lack of customer service ethics. I use to enjoy this place , so maybe it’s just the Thursday crew- but employees displayed shocking self serving attitude. Entered at 6:50 - sat in front room and was ignored. Went to bar where female waitress was showing memes on phone to a few loud regulars. Stood there awkwardly a few minutes but she was blatant in refusing to make any eye contact. Giving up, I moved to bar end with open seat. Male waiter had patron buy him a shot, they shared pleasantries, he rang up bill, retrieved it, and quickly turned his back, also avoiding any eye contact or acknowledgement that i was there. Ignoring me, he left bar, passed the laugh brigade, and went and closed out a table, retrieved their bill, and again turned his back to me -walking behind grill. I started to walk back to table past Miss Disengaged, but the man did speak to me to say it’s just bad timing, because they are about to do a shift change. I noted that it would have been courteous to at least acknowledge me earlier, we are ok to wait and order food, but could he at least bring us two beers. He agreed and said beers would be on him due to their over-sight. I said that is not needed, we are fine to pay, but would just like to have service. He said no problem and went to ……. well…. home i guess. 15-17 minutes later we were still sitting- no service. Miss Disengaged went on a smoke break and retuned without a word. I assume since they were leaving and another staff would get the tip, they felt justified in refusing to serve. 30 minutes total we sat with zero service in a bar that only had 3-4 regular loud patrons and one other table. Staff was Apathetic, unprofessional, and self-serving. Sad experience. Seems establishment has evolved to if you are not a regular known by name, you are not...

II Charlies is awesome, for many reasons. Their staff is exceptionally friendly, it is multi-tiered so has plenty of places to gather as a group or sit in a quiet spot to enjoy the afternoon while studying / chilling, their drink menu is large and well balanced, the drink specials reasonable and well publicized, and their food is dope. They're the type of place which recognizes faces and welcomes people like family, not in a forced creepy way but because they legit remember and pay attention. I usually get whiskey drinks or Bloody Marys. I truly enjoy their Bloody Mary mix. It's refreshing and has a little of everything - not too much of anything, but bright and well mixed - perfect for a warm evening or brunch. Their nachos are my go-to because they have all kinds of veggies and cheese on every bite, and their homemade salsa is excellent. My favorite thing is after they put all the "warm" parts together they put the whole thing into the oven so the cheese is perfectly melted and the nachos are just slightly brown. Add that to the "cool" stuff on top and it never fails to cure all problems. I've never once been able to finish the plate so if you order it be prepared to get a to-go box. Also love their mushroom swiss burger, the fried pickles, their ranch dressing, and if you're there for lunch ask what the soup of the day is. I've never eaten or drank anything there I didn't enjoy. First of all, Jess is a great bartender, unless she throws your beers out because she forgets she was saving them for you before close ;) but really, II Chucks is great place that you could call a venue between a hole-in-the-wall and a larger spot to hang out. It has a smaller bottom floor with an older traditional bar and a hit-or-miss (not the food but the timing of when things are being cooked/prepared) kitchen than makes you feel at home, whether you like close-knit company or sports/movies on a screen, it isnt over the top, but provided.

If you go up the stairs you have a larger 3/4 circle bar with much more seating, a back room for larger groups, and then the finalé is the balcony and patio of the same size. You can enjoy some fresh air with ample seating and not feel to guilty about the loud guy or gal in your group who's night has already progressed past the rest of the crew's haha.

All in all two Charlie's is a bar that doesnt get enough attention, especially if you're a fan of the type of oasis'that give you the small town vibes.
