We went here a couple of months ago and had a really good experience at Thai Ocha. The food was really good, we had quite a few orders of vegan curries, and the curries were delicious. Fast forward a few months, we went there again this weekend because we just loved the vegan curries so much when we were here the last time. It seemed as if the staff has been completely changed from last time and the chefs might have changed too since the food we ordered tasted a lot different from last time. We ordered vegan curries and to our surprise they told us that they couldn’t make curries vegan. We went here only to have the curries since they were so good the last time we were here; so we had to reorder and we then ordered some of the most basic thai dishes like vegan basil fried rice and vegan drunken noodles. When we received our food, the vegan basil friend rice had egg in it so we told the server and they apologized for it and willingly replaced it and told us that the owner will prepare our food now. We were really excited hearing that and we finally had the corrected dishes in some time. To our surprise, the basil fried rice that we ate here was not at all good. It had no fragrance of basil and no seasoning at all. We had to ask for salt and some sauces to add some flavors to it. We ordered 2 basil fried rices and both were just the same- tasteless. Never had this kind of a basil friend rice anywhere else. Coming to the order of drunken noodles, that was extremely sweet. The flavors were not at all balanced. We mentioned this to the server and they then provided us a discount on our bill to compensate for our unsatisfactory visit. But I am really skeptical that we would be visiting this place again. Our first visit here was definitely 5 stars but our most recent visit was 2 stars, I don’t think they now have the expertise with...
Read moreI just moved to Denton about a month ago and have been excited to try the new places nearby when we take a night off from cooking. Thai Ocha was one of the places I had been most looking forward to trying based on the reviews online. Friday night felt like and "order out" kind of night, so I ordered online for pickup. The order process was easy and I was given a pickup time of 30 minutes from order time. I was already really hungry when I arrived 5 minutes before my scheduled pickup time only to be told that "it's gonna be awhile." The place was nearly full inside and there were (no joke) 6 other people waiting to pick up their orders. After waiting another 15 minutes (45 mins total from order time), I asked about how much longer it would be and was told "about 20 minutes." I asked for a refund. After the cashier went to talk to the manager about this, he returned to say, "your order was moved up and we can get it in 10 minutes." I decided to wait. I should not have. People were very angry and visibly frustrated at the wait. I don't know what was happening in the kitchen, but when I got home, my order was missing the extra sauce that I ordered (and paid for), the food was fairly bland, and my girlfriend's Thai fried rice tasted like it had not been fully cooked. The flavors had real potential - and maybe this place is fine on a slow night, but I won't be going back. If you can't manage a kitchen and be honest with people (and stop taking new orders) when you're backed up, you have no business running a restaurant. In the end, my food was ready over an hour after I placed my order, the order was incomplete, and the food...
Read moreI would like to tell this story and you can decide yourselves to go to Thai Ocha or not to go. I arrive at 1pm and start wondering about 130pm why my "to go" order has not been completed. I ask them about my order and they stated earlier another person picked up my to go order with his and that he didn't even pay and walked out. On top of that I tried to purchase egg rolls with my order and they said they were sold out. Upon seeing almost everyones order come out with an egg roll I asked if those were different from the egg rolls I was trying to order, they said no they are the same. I asked if I could add one to my order and they declined saying they were running low on them and would only be giving them out with the lunch special. About 40 minutes after placing my order I checked on it again and they said two more minutes and brought out someone else's order and tried to give it to me. I said that is not my name on the order and asked for a refund being I could not wait any longer and needed to return to work. While the refund was about to start they found another order in the back that turned out to be mine. Not the one they had the cooks rush but just an order with my name on it in the back. Not sure what to think of the hour long "to go" experience other than an extremely unorganized and frustrating. Also When I asked for some sweet and sour sauce for my order they were out as well, had to visit another restaurant...
