Disclaimer: My review is only indicative of my visit for on August 13, 2023.
The food and service here is usually impecable, so much so that visiting this establishment has become a bit of weekend tradition ever since having moved here.
However, with they said, the ladies staffing the hostess station were a bit on the rude, and non-communicative side of things this afternoon.
I walked in and wasnât acknowledged by the hostess (which is, again, remarkably uncommon).
When I was eventually acknowledged, I asked specifically for a seat against a wall, and not a two-top, as I had a little bit of work I wanted to accomplish with my meal.
The lady working the hostess station, seemed panicked/panicky that they were going to have to âstart the waitlistâ, of which I had no issue (again, as this is a common occurrence on a Sunday afternoon, and not at all unelected).
I told her I didnât mind. And she offered the bar or a two-top to me, it I reminded her of the work I intended to do. She took my name and number, put me on the list, and I proceeded to sit and wait for my name to be called.
I was given notice that my table was ready in under five minutes, but then walked to the center of the dining room, exactly where I asked not to be seated.
I happened to spot, in the same moment, a booth that was open (and both were four-tops). I then asked the hostess who initially seated me (a different hostess at this point, to be fair), if I could swap my assigned table with the booth in the corner.
To which she made a brief âuggghâ sound and snapped, sharply, âYeah, yeah, thatâs fineâ.
I made my way over to my ânewâ table, sat down and began to unpack my things, and the same hostess returned and aggressively the menu and silverware roll onto the table.
I get it you guys are busy â Hell, I get if you were short-handed that day, or understaffed in general.
With that said, it should also be understood that if a customer communicates a reasonable request â and is willing to patiently wait until such a time that said request can be met/accommodated â then that customer shouldnât be treated rudely or like an inconvenience/burden by your staff.
Especially when the needs were communicated upfront, clearly, concisely and humbly.
Been coming here, weekly, since the second week of January â23, and this is first issue I felt should be reviewed.
Keep up the good food, and the (usually) pleasant, friendly, and engaging staff and Iâll continue my weekly visit well in to January â24 and beyond.
If notâŠI can sympathizeâŠbut there are plenty of other brunch spots...
Read moreWent there for breakfast on Sunday. We requested a booth twice and were led to a table. A booth was found for us quickly but had to be cleaned while we waited. Before we sat down we noticed that some food debris that had been cleaned from the table was now on the floor. Grapes, empty sugar packets, etc.. I wiped off the seat because there was either salt or sugar left there. I wanted to request a different booth but my hubby's patience on waiting for a seat had ran out.
We were given menus but soon noticed we had no silverware or napkins. It took us both asking the waitress twice for these before we received any. At the time we got there it was past the typical breakfast time but this place is only open for breakfast and lunch and breakfast is served until they close at 2:00 PM and we were there well before closing. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs. He opted for hash browns instead of grits and they brought grits which he immediately sent back to the kitchen. He said later the chicken fried steak was slightly tough but maybe because he had no steak knife to use, just the regular butter type knife.
He said overall his meal tasted alright, not bad but not great. I ordered scrambled eggs and bacon. The eggs arrived cold and totally unappealing. Not the fluffy scrambled eggs I typically can get pretty much in any restaurant, these were small curds of eggs scattered all around the plate. The bacon was equally as bad, it was undercooked. I always make a point of ordering bacon cooked extra crisp and this was the opposite, it had the rubbery quality of undercooked bacon. Needless to say, I didn't eat my breakfast. I did not send my plate back because basically by this time, my appetite was gone. The coffee was decent and the fresh squeezed orange juice was very good. Those are the only two positives I can say.. although on the coffee they never came to check to see if we wanted more, each time we had to flag someone down.
This was our first time trying this restaurant. The restaurant was not crowded so I'm not sure why the service and food were so lacking. Despite this experience, I might be tempted (sheerly out of curiosity) to return at a different time of day and order something else just to see if there is a difference... maybe they were simply having a really, really off day at the restaurant. So, first experience at North Point Cafe in Denton definitely not a good one but maybe willing to some day give them another...
Read moreMy Denton High School Class of 1961 meets for lunch each month at North Point Cafe on W. University. The food is way above average - plentiful - well-priced and fresh. I think it is the best Breakfast, Brunch, and Lunch restaurant in Denton County. But my 5-star rating, which is normally only given to high-end restaurants, is solely because of our exceptional waitress Brandy Valdez. Wednesday we arrived to find out tables already set up. Menus, Silverware, Extra Napkins, Condiments, Bowls of Lemons, Trays of water, and BRANDY, smiling and greeting us. It felt like we were stopping by my grandmotherâs home. Warm, cheerful, and excited to have us. Brandy served 2 long tables of 81-year-olds and treated us as her personal guests. Our water and tea glasses were always filled, our sandwiches were cut in half and just as we finished eating, there was Brandy handing out To-Go boxes, always smiling. Thank you for your kindness, professionalism, and SMILES. Please stop by North Point and ask for Brandy. The fruit crepes are awesome, the burgers are juicy, the fried okra is crunchy, the sandwiches are toasted just right, the breakfast menu is generous and they can cook an egg âover easyâ just right. I have never ordered anything that wasn't top...
