Come to this gem of a place for authentic Chinese food!
First, what was appreciated were the self-serve cold water dispensers and metal cups. You can get regular or lemon water.
We mostly had various noodle bowls, but we must come back for their dumplings and XLB (soup dumplings). Everything was very tasty and the portions were generous.
For starters we had Mala Pig Ear Salad (w/ cucumber and cilantro, a toothsome dish!) and South Style Garden Delight (vegetarian dish with tofu sticks, peanuts, lotus roots and mushrooms).
Then we had the Braised Beef Noodle Soup, Peking Duck Wonton Noodle Soup, and Da Lu Mian ( a vegetarian dish with tomato, scrambled egg and a thicker mushroom gravy). All delicious!
The service was attentive and friendly. The simple but modern dining area was bright, clean and had a good amount of tables. After ordering, the starters and noodle bowls came out after about 10 minutes. Also, the bathrooms were nicely appointed and clean.
Prices are more per dish than your typical corner Chinese food place, but it’s reasonable for authentic, great-tasting dishes that go beyond the typical Americanized-Chinese fare.
Drop by for great Chinese food!
EDIT: At the end of our vacation, we decided to come back! We ordered the Five Spice beef shank small plate, Pork Belly Gua Bao (kind of like a sandwich: pork, sauce and veggies in between steamed bread), the Siao Mai and the Pork Xiao Long Bao...
Read moreMy initial impressions were low key boba cafe vibes with a modern atmosphere. Little did I know that I was about to be raw dogged with flavors that send you to another galaxy.
Orders as follows: the Sliced pig ears - top notch authentic flavors. Cooked to perfection with the right crunch in each bite. 5/5
5 spiced beef - has 5 in it, so 5/5. Also ultra tender.
Beef noodle soup - literally tastes better than what my mom makes. 5/5. Egg noodles were different than what I was used to.
Pork/ Pork-Crab XLB - almost as good as din tai fung if I had my eyes closed. The soup was heaven and the stuff ethereal. 5/5
Shrimp Pork wonton and Shui mai - really good. I don't often eat these, but they didn't offend me or taste off. 5/5. The wontons came with a sweetness, which was a pleasant surprise.
Bao buns- definitely was going the right direction, but gimme a thick pork slab and a little less pickled radish. No sauce either. 4/5
For all you jackoffs giving below 4 stars probably cause you let your dumplings get cold on your takeout and don't eat chili crisp cause it's too spicy for you. I digress. This place is extremely authentic and tastes like home. Everyone should try it at least once and you will not be...
Read more50/50 on this one. Half the food we ordered was really good and half of it was bland and regrettable. Bad first: the Pork Dumplings tasted like unseasoned hot dog meat, chewed up and spit into a soggy dumpling wrapper. The Braised Beef Noodle Soup was another huge let down. Nothing more than 'broth' aka warm water with barely a drop of seasoning and chunks of dried out, over cooked beef floating in it. Almost inedible and definitely overpriced. They also charge 3.25 for a bottle of coke which seems a bit excessive, even as overpriced as things are.
On the other hand, there were two dishes that I would recommend and even go back for. The South Style Garden Delight was just that, a tasty delight, with mushrooms, lotus root and bamboo. The Da Lu Mian, another noodle dish was very tasty. It was so flavorful it put the braised beef to shame! Not often are the vegetarian dishes far better than the meat offerings but that was definitely...
