I would love to say this place is great. I like the atmosphere, the people and vibe. But if you are looking for the authentic creole cuisine, this is just not it. I took my mother here after she went through some very difficult imaging at the hospital. We were very excited to go here. But sadly, the experience did not match our excitement. We had to send back the food twice, because it was not hot enough. Only one waiter was working so we could not even get refills on water let alone coffee. Also, I might add, the water had a very displeasing taste. I don’t know if it comes from the tap or if the pitcher was not clean. My mother had to drink a lot of water for her next test. I ended up walking and picking up a pitcher of water for just my table. Instead of apologizing the waiter just simply said “oh great you have all the water you want now”. Secondly the food. I was so disappointed in the food. It was bland, not flavorful or “spicy”, like they claim on their menu. Even my drink from the bar was just mediocre. And it was suppose to be a New Orleans’ style drink. Tasted like whiskey, water and something sweet. The only saving grace of this place is the rolls. They are homemade and come with homemade jam (which, is actually pretty basic) and flake apart so nicely. Too bad ours were cold. It would be a place I would go to if I had little time and it was close to my house, otherwise I would choose something different. To top it off, my mother and I spent over $60 before tip! (And the waiter did not even take a dollar off due to the inconvenience) Just for breakfast! It was two entrees, two coffees and one drink. I was not happy to see the bill. Do yourself a favor if you have time and check some other good breakfast places around here. Update: I even gave this place a second try with almost similar results, except the waitress was phenomenal! She made the visit far...
Read moreI recently visited Lucile's Creole Cafe in Denver and had an absolutely delightful experience. Here's what stood out: - New Orleans Donuts (Beignets): These were a true highlight. Perfectly fried, fluffy, and just the right amount of sweetness with the dusting of powdered sugar. They were everything you'd hope for if you're missing a taste of New Orleans. - Eggs Benedict: This dish was spot on. The hollandaise sauce was creamy and tangy, complementing the perfectly poached eggs and the ham. The balance of flavors was excellent, and the presentation was appetizing. - Hot Chocolate: Rich, creamy, and not overly sweet, the hot chocolate was a comforting touch, especially on a chilly Denver morning. It felt like a warm hug in a mug, perfect for starting the day. - Orange Juice: Freshly squeezed by our server, Maria, this juice was vibrant and full of flavor. It was the perfect refreshment to cleanse the palate between bites of the rich, savory dishes. - Jam: The homemade jam served with the biscuits was divine. It had a wonderful balance of fruitiness and tartness, enhancing the buttery, flaky biscuit experience. - Service: Maria, our server, was fantastic. She was attentive, friendly, and seemed genuinely pleased to serve us. Her recommendation of the jam and her prompt refills of hot chocolate added to the charm of our meal. Overall, Lucile's Creole Cafe offers a slice of New Orleans right in the heart of Denver. The atmosphere captures the spirit of the South with its cozy, quirky decor, and the food delivers on taste and authenticity. If you're in the mood for a hearty breakfast with a Creole twist, this place is a must-visit. The quality of the food, combined with the warm service, made for an unforgettable dining experience. Highly recommend stopping by for the beignets alone, but everything else will keep you coming...
Read moreI’ve wanted to try this place for years and for one reason (usually the long lines) or another, it got overlooked. While trying to summon my brunch buddies for a last minute get together, I considered all the hip usual places that frankly I can’t stand. They were all too hungover to get out of bed so I went on a solo journey to the closest Lucille’s.
This place was packed. I mean PACKED. I don’t know how long the wait was but there were many a folk waiting for a table. I sat at the bar, and I gotta hand it to them, they may have been slammmed, but from the minute I walked in the front door to when my meal was in front of me was less than 7 minutes. Outstanding.
I got the Carlin County— biscuit smothered with sausage gravy, alongside red beans and grits. The gravy was great— little spicy, well seasoned but not obnoxious. Biscuit was underwhelming and dry which is a shame because they look awesome. They’re massive and square cut but I think someone over mixed the dough. Red beans were flavorful and creamy. Grits… probably the only acceptable ones in the state of Colorado at this point. Nothing special, but that’s just alright with me.
Orange juice was fresh, but not tableside fresh as advertised. They’re busy, I didn’t need the entertainment of a tableside squeeze and I certainly wouldn’t expect a bartender to have to do that but then again I think I paid $5 for a large (very small large) glass of OJ that came from a pitcher.
Get the cafe au lait. The chicory coffee they serve is fabulous.
I also got a Cuban OJ— same fresh OJ with rum and banana liquor. I tossed that back real quick and let’s just say I needed a nap when I got home.
I will return to try other things on the menu. I’m sad I forgot the beignets but look forward to them on my next visit. Service was friendly. Unbelievably fast. So fast when they set my plate down I said “holy...
