Pho Ok is, well, just OK... The pho broth is a rather unexciting pale broth, not spiced, not earthy, not particularly aromatic like many others I have tasted. It is just fine for a quick snack. Ordered the Tai Nam Sach but no tripe showed up in my bowl sadly. Maybe they were tired, but I was too tired to care. I also order Cha Gio which was nice and crispy although the filling was unexciting again; why don't owners taste their own food? With just a little imagination I'm sure it could be made more tasty. I finally ordered the Fried Egg noodle with chicken & veg. The noodles were nice and crisp, however the sauce was very thin, bland, and didn't stick to the noodles like it should be able to. Maybe that's the way the owner likes it, but it's not for me. My sauce should be thick enough to stick to the noodles, not sit in the bottom like leftover water. Sadly I had high hopes for the place after reading other reviews. Just a bit more imagination and taste to pick this place up out of mediocrity. The waiter and waitress were attentive and...
Read moreSurprising! This little Vietnamese restaurant in a nondescript strip mall is a little gem. The staff is very friendly and the food is thoughtfully prepared with fresh vegetables and good quality meats and fish.
The Pho is accurately prepared and the Bun Thit Nuang Cha Gio (noodle bowls) are my family's favorite. The Cha Gio (fried egg rolls) are done very well here. This is my kid's favorite aspect of Vietnamese cuisine combining an Asian version of paté into a fried roll with rice paper (not wheat/egg roll) and then serving as a wrap with lettuce, carrots, sprouts, cilantro and dipped in fish sauce. It's intended to be light and well-seasoned, allowing the sweet, salty and spicy flavor combination in the filling to be surrounded by a crispy skin to delight your palate. Pho Ok carries this off very well - better than most other Vietnamese restaurants in the area.
A quick word on Boba. Pho Ok serves boba and, more importantly, they will moderate the sugar content. Ask for melon or passion fruit with half (or quarter...
Read moreWe recently moved from NYC to Denver and are very accustomed to getting fantastic, inexpensive, fast Vietnamese food. We initially went to a few other restaurants and were underwhelmed. Then we found Pho OK. This restaurant is fantastic!!!
I am gluten-free and when I spoke to the owner and told him I needed gluten-free sauces he accommodated in a HUGE way. He went out and bought a pallet of gluten-free oyster sauce. Now all their food is gluten-free and I can enjoy it worry free.
BTW - if they don't have what you want on the menu - ask and they'll try to accommodate.
While it certainly not high-end dining, the food is amazing, and the prices couldn't be better for the quality of food and portion size. If you live in Lowery, Crestmoor, Virginia Vale, Washington Virgina Vale, Hilltop or Gendale I HIGHLY recommend you check it out. FYI - I'm not getting compensated for this just want to make sure it stays around as we eat here 1-2 times a week as the food is Fresh, tasty, simply GOOD...
