This is a hard review to write but also a necessary review to be written. I typically take a Guy Fieri approach and only give good feedback to good places but am making an exception here to maybe save some people from a terrible experience. Wilde is a new restaurant opening at a very busy time of year, we knew heading in that we would have to extend them some grace as every place has growing pains at first. What we experienced at Wilde, however, was an unforgivably bad brunch. I will detail the grievances as follows; 1. the bottomless mimosas contained far too much orange juice and were a huge sugar bomb, also we were not given a refill of the mimosa until we had nearly finished our entrees despite requesting one probably 30 minutes earlier. 2. The breakfast pizza was so bad. This item should not be on the menu without serious tweaks. It's basically a par cooked loaf of bread topped with greens and some par cooked bacon, truly the worst thing I'd been served at any restaurant ever. It looked quite bad, and the fact that the line cook assembled it and allowed it to go out is bad, but the failure extends to all who handled it. Perhaps the managers at Wilde could do with some training on the Swiss cheese method of failure. Also, the crab cakes were found to be oily and soggy, something quite unfortunate for a "coastal" brunch concept. 3. The service was horrendous. There were two servers for the dining room, and it was quite busy at first. However, the service did not improve as the room emptied out. The servers required multiple prompts to bring us an adequate amount of water for the table (did not get enough water for about an hour), "bottomless" mimosa refill took a very long amount of time and when asked to tone down the ratio of oj to sparkling wine we were greeted with an unpleasant attitude, silverware was not dropped with the entrees and we had to request it, once it was brought to the table it was an inadequate amount for all of us, despite the room emptying out the service continued to be terrible and the servers were performing sidework rather than checking in on us for much needed help (napkins, silverware, water, etc.) I get that this is a casual place and don't like to comment on looks typically but it did appear that one of the servers likely rolled out of bed and came straight into work (probably should've been a red flag for us.)
The good: the fried chicken sandwich was quite delicious, and I am told that the breakfast burrito was great as well. The menu overall looks great but some of the items are just so poorly executed and should be removed altogether as they are not fit for service.
Overall I hope they turn things around here because the location is great and the neighborhood needs a brunch place. Currently it seems like nobody working there really cared about the guest experience as it was just so bad in so many different ways that unless there is a management overhaul or complete retraining I'm not sure it'll be enough to make...
Read moreWe have been trying to visit this place for a while, and now I am hooked. First of all, let's start with the service. Maggie was handling SO many tables when we cozied up to the bar, but it was still perfect service. Their bottomless is $23, and that is reasonable. Maggie, thanks. We had to go home and clean, and although our initial cleaning was fun, we then quit on it. Tomorrow sounds good. No sports on the TV, so don't go for that, but when you drink bottomless watching San Diego PB waves at a bar owned by a SD owner, what are the complaints? Wife said the shrimp and grits were the best she has had in years, and I will go to bat and say the crabcake sandwich with egg might have been the best crabcake anything outside of Maryland or Maine. Energy and music were great, and unique. You will go there and probably Shazam some songs. Boom. Bottled hot sauce, and I hope the kitchen reads this and creates some SD hot sauce that blows my mind next time. VERY minor complaints. Can't wait to try the burrito and burger. Definitely recommend and see you there.
ADDITIONAL VISIT INFO: We went again for brunch on a weekend (Memorial Day weekend). I remembered that I got the magical crabcake sandwich (especially for a landlocked state), so I wanted to try something else. I still was in a crab mood and got the crabcake Benny. Jessie was running solo, and although we were one of the first three tables in there, she was handling about 8-9 when we left. She still was efficient, and I think they pulled someone from back of house to help. I still felt like every conversation with Jessie didn't indicate she had 1000 other things to do. Fun music in the background, and it made the place very energetic. Fun pink chairs too! The wife got the surf and turf burrito, and it was solid. I think it was a push on that day as to who got the better meal. The homemade chips that her burrito came with were MAGICAL. I stole a bunch of hers. My Benny was awesome, and wherever they are sourcing their crab, it is working. The potatoes that came with it were honestly good on their own, although I always drench mine with Hollandaise and hot sauce. I always LOVE when a place has a house hot sauce, they had it, and it delivered. Great stuff for us hot sauce folks. There was a $15 bottomless special, so the wife got that. Great deal, and it is still a decent deal at its normal price of $24. The drink itself wasn't her favorite, but still great value. My main recommendations would be more staff on each of our visits, and to invest in surround sound, so one table doesn't have the speaker next to them. Also, deliver the iced tea in a bigger glass for less refills. Next on my list here is the allegedly popular Baja burrito, I highly recommend, still a five, and see...
Read moreI had one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment I arrived, it was evident that the service and management were lacking.
Upon arrival, we waited approximately 10 minutes just to be acknowledged by staff. After finally being seated, we then endured another 15-minute wait before our server greeted us at the table. Once we placed our drink orders, it took another 20 minutes for them to arrive—completely unacceptable.
But the worst was yet to come. After an already unreasonably long wait for our food, the server finally brought out meals for everyone at our table—except mine. That’s when I was informed that the item I ordered was actually unavailable, and I would need to pick something else from the menu. It is completely baffling to me how they waited until the very moment everyone else’s food was served to let me know I wouldn’t be eating. No forewarning, no heads-up—just a shrug and a suggestion to choose something else while my table ate around me.
I declined, and was offered a complimentary drink as a consolation, which—unsurprisingly—never arrived. At no point did the server apologize, show empathy, or take any responsibility for what was clearly a major service failure.
Dining out should feel like a treat, not a test of your patience and tolerance. I will absolutely not be returning, and I strongly urge others to consider their options before making a...
