First and foremost I used to live at 13th and Downing and would frequent this place quite a bit. Its great for hockey games, kinda dark cozy bar in the winter and great pizza. A waiter named "meatloaf" used to take care of us whether it was myself and friends or if I had family in town, always an easy spot to come and have a good pie. The reason for the low rating now is I haven't been back in over a year, my mother was in town and I wanted to take her in for a good pie. We waited 25 mins to get a menu and beers which was VERY unusual for this place, and alas "Meatloaf" was not working this night. The bar was decently busy but not crazy, they had two people working both as bartender and waitress. My biggest complaint after waiting so long just to get served (this was after both sitting at a table and me trying to stand at the bar to get served) was that the pizza was just not good....The waiters dropped it at our table and it was the deep dish cheese but looked like a tomato soup...the chef clearly went nuts with the sauce this time which would've been ok if he had cut the pizza. I asked the waitress to help us cut it or send it back but she just noted "nah its cut" and ran away. I didn't want to wait 25 mins for her to come back so we sat there like animals with a steak knife trying to cut this monster pizza. The flavor was there, it is still decent pizza, but I ended up taking the rest of the tomato soup home and after it cooled and gelled over I flipped it upside down and boom, it was certainly not cut at all into slices for us.

This clearly was a busy night but nothing out of the ordinary for a Friday night. As a regular I guest I was used to the amazing service I received in the past. Tonight I got ignored, a low quality pizza for what they usually provide, and a complete and utter lack of customer service or help when a super basic...

This place has a really cool vibe, and does make me feel like I am back home at a bar in Chicago. I was there recently watching a Bulls game and it was a lot of fun to get to watch it with other Bulls fans. I definitely see myself going back for that reason.

However, I was debating between 2-3 stars because I just really didn’t like the pizza. I LOVE deep dish pizza and was super excited when I saw this place actually used deep dish pans, but unfortunately the pizza wasn’t very good. The crust was burnt towards the bottom and really not that thick. Like the crust made it halfway up the pan only, and if you go to a true deep dish place in Chicago that is never the case. Also this is a really small thing but when our server brought our pies out, he wasn’t sure which is which. And that’s not a huge thing because you can tell pretty quickly, but to compare it to a true deep dish place in Chicago, the server there will always know the pies and will serve the first slice to everyone. Again that’s a really small detail, and those places in Chicago are bigger with multiple servers. But it’s still a part of the experience.

So to give this place a fair shake, I’d say, it’s a really cool Chicago bar that makes an attempt at deep dish pizza. But I would not call this place a deep dish...

The employees were really nice and I liked the pepperoni rolls. Unfortunately the deep dish pizza was not it. I miss Chicago deep dish so much and I would die for a properly made piece. I really want to introduce my daughter to the style of pizza as well however I can't seem to find a good Chicago-style deep-dish anywhere in Colorado. I guess maybe I actually have to go to Chicago. I was a little disappointed because I did drive 40 minutes each way to eat this and the pizza was terrible. The employees were extremely nice though so I feel bad even complaining but I came for the pizza. And just to explain what was wrong with it it's not a deep dish pizza just because you make it in a deep dish pan like it's actually supposed to have a thick crust it's not supposed to be a thin crust made in a deep dish pan just saying. And it was so greasy there were literal pools of grease. I mean shame on the reviewers for making me think that this was a really good pizza or like have they never had a true Chicago deep dish or what but something misled me to think this was going to be a great...

Ratings are high so I thought the pizza was going to be pretty good. Just ordered a small deep dish, that was the only food I had. As someone who grew up in Illinois I was looking forward to a good slice of deep dish pizza. It wasn’t good at all. The cornmeal crust was thin and pretty crunchy. One of the main distinctions of a deep dish pizza is the cornmeal crust, definitely could be thicker with a better taste. The sauce was oh so powerful. So much oregano. I don’t know if someone accidentally put that much in but it was like eating a bite out of the actual plant. I haven’t tried the other food so that might be the way to go. If you have never had deep dish, then you might like it. Service was fast with my pickup and the atmosphere was bumpin for a Sunday night. Edit: looks like there is new management or a change in the kitchen. Could be why this hyped up place didn’t live up to the word.

RE-REVIEW POSTED 12/9/2019: We were invited back in for a re-make by Steven the General Manager. We ended up getting the Big Pizzle Deep dish this time around. The dough was tasty and cooked through. All in all we were satisfied with the re-make and will definitely be back! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ORIGINAL REVIEW POSTED 12/3/2019 Deep Dish Chicago Pizza? I don't think so. More like soggy, raw, bland, disgusting pile of marinara and dough. Extremely disappointed. I ordered a pizza to go. By the time I got home 5 minutes later this is what I opened my box to. I called the bar when i got home and told the staff about my pizza and how it was completely inedible. 3 Days later still not resolution, no call back, no nothing. Unbelievable. Never going back.
