I came here because of all the great reviews & I'm disappointed.
The food is on the bland side. The seasonings are very nice, they just really need to turn the flavors up. The fried rice has a oyster sauce taste to it, which I like. The curry is always my favorite & this place does it right. Again, just all too bland.
The portions are not generous, especially for how expensive it was. I guess the prices were high because it's in a mall. I got half a pint of white rice for a large beef curry and they didn't fill the quart to the top.
The real deal breaker was the beef. It is extremely tough. I will not be going back because this will never change. A restaurant either knows how to braise their beef or they don't. This place just doesn't have the touch.
The place was super clean & fancy. The employees were all dressed strikingly well. If you ever wondered what it feels like to be in a paper dragon head piñata, this place is it.
Silly, but I liked it a lot.
By the way, I'm not sure what previous reviewer Tahsha meant by saying they make their own sauces. The sweet & sour, hot mustard & soy sauces are the usual pre-packed Kari-Out goo. I ignored the packaging & tasted it to confirm. It all...
Read moreWe enjoyed our visit to the Chinese Dragon in Detroit Lakes. The decor and feel of the restaurant is very pleasant. I love that this restaurant is an order off the menu rather than the typical buffet style place. Our server was prompt, friendly and happy to answer any of our questions. The food was fresh and hot when it came out. We ordered hot and sour soup, Mongolian Beef and chicken fried rice. The biggest issue we had with the food was flavor. The food, especially the meat, was fairly bland. The chicken in the fried rice was not cut properly there were a handful of large pieces of chicken rather than the chicken being cut into smaller pieces so it could be spread throughout the rice dish. The Beef was also not seasoned very well. The Hot and sour soup was also fairly bland. On a good note the vegetables were cooked properly and were crisp and hot. Also the presentation of the meal was pleasant. Overall it was a good experience we all just wished the Chinese Dragon would focus a little more on spices and flavor. I was able to compensate by adding lots...
Read moreI have been going here since they first opened in the old Erie Jr. location. Quality has been going down hill every ten years or so. I went today and wont be going again. The egg rolls I loved were so sweet it was obvious there was way too much sugar and msg added and no meat. The fried rice had bean sprouts, which I dont like, never used to and was crunchy, under cooked and flavorless. kung pao chicken was not spicy. I asked for alot of heat a 5 if they still do 1-5. The celery is cut in big tough chunks. Not on an angle and thin to be tander, same with green peppers, just huge chunks. And the beautiful chicken breast they used to add generously, was chewy and tough and few and far between. No carrots but added bamboo shoots and water chestnuts. Prices were outrageous. 1 combination plate and one order of sweet and sour chicken was $45.00. I can make it better at home and convenience isnt...
