Add my review to the "I can't believe this place has such a high rating" stack. First, our order was wrong. We ordered Butter Chicken and Vindaloo, both were supposed to come with rice, neither did. We also ordered two plain naan, plus one with cheese. We received a bag containing two plain and another bag with one more plain naan. Soooo... the food better be good, right? Let's go down the list... Veggie samosas: I've never ordered samosas at an Indian restaurant and not been given chutney, except here. The samosas had no degree of heat whatsoever and were weirdly kind of creamy. The dough was saturated in grease like it simmered in it rather than fried. Butter chicken: I was so surprised at how tiny the portion was, but relieved after trying it since I hate to throw food away. The chicken was super dry with the consistency of sawdust. The sauce was very bland. Vindaloo: Also a tiny portion, but thank goodness because I couldn't eat more than one bite. We ordered it with lamb but there wasn't a hint of lamb flavor. We both thought they gave us beef on accident but it's an Indian restaurant so that's not on the menu. It was so dry I couldn't chew it enough to swallow. The sauce was flavorless, the only distinguishable sensation was heat. Naan: Definitely not fresh and didn't have much flavor. Gulab jamun (Indian Sweets): They were super mushy and just tasted like plain dough in sugar water. I'm accustomed to the ones that I've always had at other restaurants and in friends' homes that have some flavor, like rose and cardamom. Mixed pickle: I was surprised that it was $3 when I read the menu because most restaurants serve a small amount included with your dishes, but figured $3 worth would be keep well in the fridge. So I was quite surprised again to see it was indeed just a tiny amount. It was the only thing that I liked though, so there's that. I was super excited to see that we finally have an Indian restaurant in Detroit... pretty disappointed now to...
Read moreI don’t usually even go through the troubles of leaving bad food reviews bc having spent 15 years working in the food service industry I understand a lot goes into food and so many different things could go wrong. Yet tonight I ordered dinner for my girlfriend and I and it was unequivocally the worst Indian we’ve ever had. My Tikka Masala was watery, flavorless and a waste of money. The sauce seemed to be lacking really any seasoning, and any thickness that cream usually affords it—kind of crazy that i’ve had this dish here and it tasted so different. Her Sog Poneer was so bad she only got a few bites into it before telling me she thought something was wrong with it. The sog often spelled saag tasted spoiled, like canned spinach had been held over for several days and reheated. I’ve never tasted any Indian food quite like it. We’ve eaten with Masala 4 or 5 times and never experienced anything off, but this was so bad we will never be back. If you live in the city I advise you to make the drive to Pulkari Punjabi Kitchen, MayaBazaar, Noorjahan Indian Grill, etc. even if they’re...
Read moreHello Joe. I really appreciate your feedback, and m very impressed by your willingness to make things right with your customers. It is rare that owners / managers take this sort of initiative, and this is a true testament of your desire to deliver outstanding customer service. I saved the food and will be in soon. Thank you, and blessings to you and your business. I called in an order of Vegetable Samosas and the Cauliflower Manchurian, and was told the order would be ready in 15 minutes. When I came 20 minutes later I still had to wait 20 minutes. The food was disappointing because my vegetables (frozen peas and carrots) were mixed with meat on one samosa, and the other was all meat. The accompanying sauces were not tasty. The cauliflower was awful. I thought it would be breaded with spice, but it was doused in ketchup and siracha sauce. Don't think I will be ordering from there again. I must say though that the staff...
