I really want to rate this place higher because the food is good, but the staff won't let me. The 1st incident was that we ordered online and paid for the food. I proceeded to drive 20 minutes from our house to the midtown location. I walk in and tell them my name and order. They said we don't see an order for you. I showed them my order from my phone. They said oh we don't have it on our in. I had to reorder and wait 40 minutes and settle the online order with GrubHub myself. In this recent incident, I called the wife and asked if she wanted Gus's she said no, because of the last time. I said just call and place the order and I'll pick it up since I'm close by, they can't mess up a call in. The wife called and placed the order and literally spelled my name for the order. The person on the phone gave her the total. I later walked and told them my name and order. They girl asked the cooks if they had an order for me? They looked confused saying no. I told her my wife called and talked to someone & you gave her a total. She said we don't see it and can place an order now. I asked her you don't remember talking to my wife 15 minutes ago? She said, laughing maybe it was me,but I don't see it. I placed the exact order my wife gave her over the phone. The cooks then said they only had white meat. I said well give me the white in place of the dark pieces. She started to tell me to hurry and order because the screen is about to delete the order! She gave me the total and it was way more than what was ordered. She said you have to pay more for extra meat. I said it's not my fault you ran out of dark meat. You don't force the customer to pay for items you ran out of. She gets rude, because her screen "deleted " the order. I said keep it deleted because I can take my business elsewhere. She continued to talk as I walked out. As a restaurant owner I know this is no way to...
Read moreI placed my order at 6:13pm, the cashier was very nice and efficient. I ordered the 3 piece dark and asked for fries instead of the standard sides; I was charged extra. The price of my meal went from $9.45 to $11.08 just for substituting out the sides. I'm not terribly bothered by this, but it is definitely annoying...these are not premium sides we are talking about here. So I waited in my car for 12 minutes then came inside to check on my order. Still not ready but I saw a few employees packing orders so I figured it would be up next. Over the next 15 minutes, I counted 3 employees prepare plates for themselves to eat. This place only makes fried chicken for the most part, everyone that made the exact thing I had ordered and paid over 20 minutes ago but I was unimportant apparently. I ask the cashier about my food and she says it will be another few minutes and offers me a beverage for the wait. I declined because I was annoyed and just wanted my food. I asked her to replace the fries they had for my order because I had been watching them sit out in the counter for 15 minutes while the employees made themselves fresh fries and chicken. She said she have them drop new fries for me. After a few minutes she gives me my order. I should have checked my order, had I done that I would have simply requested a refund and we wouldn't be here...unfortunately that didn't happen. I arrived home and discovered they had completely scammed me! The fries that I had to pay extra for were burnt (they put the fries that had been sitting out, back into the grease) and the portion size was unacceptably small; when I usually order this I am given about twice as many fries. Even the chicken was terrible. Very boney, very little meat and quite over cooked. To be fair, the food is usually very good but service generally leaves a bit...
Read moreEverything about this experience was “just ok”. I had high hopes for the chicken after reading a few reviews and finding out that they fry their chicken in peanut oil but I was left underwhelmed at best. The atmosphere wasn’t the best even though the weather was nice, but that’s also because I came in during working hours as opposed to coming in on a weekend. The lobby was empty with the exception of me and another table( I sat at the bar). The girls taking the order were kind and straight to the point. One even let me use her franks red hot sauce because this location only carries Louisiana hot sauce. Take note however that because they have an order counter don’t expect them to check on you after you’ve received your food which wasn’t a problem for me. They also have a beer selection but a lot of things weren’t in stock. The main issue was the actual food. I had expected to get a 2 piece dark special but they were unfortunately out of all breast and thighs at only 2pm so I got a wing and a leg. At $8 for two pieces of chicken I was highly disappointed in the chicken snack I received, not only was I expecting the chicken fried in peanut oil to be much crispier, but I also expected it to be fully done. The skin wasn’t crispy, in fact it was very moist and slimey which indicated to me it wasn’t properly cooked throughout. The flavor was there but it wasn’t completely enjoyable because not only did I want a thigh but it was also pink inside and the skin was not crispy but browned. I’m glad I did try it out for reference, but detroit has way too many inexpensive and actually really tasty wing spots with walk up counters like captain jays for me to pay extra and receive...
