Love this place. I never heard of it, but when I looked it up I noticed the high rating. You rarely see a restaurant with a 4.8. Also, this place stays open until 4am everyday. So I had to check the menu. My sister is vegan, so a lot of times it can be hard to find a place with a decent amount of options, but we had no problem here. We wanted to try a variety of things, so we ordered an order of red snapper, na orange ruffin dinner and I ordered a wing ding dinner because I had never tried either of the fish, so wanted to have a backup plan.
The backup plan wasn't needed. The orange ruffin was pretty good, but the red snapper with the barbeque sauce was amazing. We had him sprinkle a light amount of lemon pepper over the top and I instantly had a favorite. I also tried that Detroit Kool-Aid, was nervous it would be full of sugar, but was pleasantly surprised at how good it tasted. Definitely took me back.
The food was so good, I ended up going back the next day and got two red snapper dinners for just under $40. I would highly recommend giving this spot a try. I didn't even mention how cool the service was as well. The guy that took our order was really cool and made the experience that much better.
Sorry I didn't take any pictures. It's a small little spot across the street from McDonalds...
Read moreTonight, I ordered the seafood boil and requested to swap the crab legs for black mussels. Unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing.
To start, the potatoes were severely undercooked—so dense and hard, they felt like bricks. I genuinely believe if I threw one against my window, it might actually shatter the glass. The corn was also undercooked and lacked flavor.
As for the seafood, the shrimp portion was small, the sausage pieces were tiny, and the black mussels—while standard—ended up being the best part of the meal.
I understand that seafood boils may not be your specialty, and it seems like this menu item was added to cater to the majority Black population in Detroit. While I appreciate the effort to diversify your offerings, I would strongly recommend hiring someone with experience in preparing seafood boils properly if you intend to continue serving them.
That said, I’ve had your traditional dishes like lamb haneeth, gallabah, and shakshuka, and those are excellent. You clearly know how to make Middle Eastern cuisine well, and I encourage you to focus on what you do best. I have half of mine to request a refund with my bank however, I’ll just provide images of what was really messed up...
Read moreHad a hankering for some fish and decided to pop in here. I was greeted upon entry and welcomed into the restaurant. Given it was my first time there I needed to check out the menu. Haz made a recommendation to me based on what I had a taste for. He explained that they had actual catfish, not swai as some shops provide. Catfish is my favorite fish so I was pleasantly surprised to learn this.
After placing my order, I was offered complimentary tea while I waited, it was delicious. Once my order was ready, Haz brought my attention to the array of desserts that they offered. I saw they had several from Awafi Cafe and opted to buy the Strawberry Cake. He provided me with a copy of the menu for future ordering when giving me my order.
Once I got home and settled in to eat, everything was fresh and hot. I ended up phoning there to let them know how much I enjoyed my meal and that I would be back. This is a second location for them that opened a few months ago. I see them being around for...
